Yamaha FZ1 discontinued in India

Yamaha has replaced the FZ1 with the newly launched MT-09 in India. The light and fast motorcycle with a new wave three-cylinder engine replaces the comparatively older inline-four cylinder FZ1.

The FZ1 was powered by inline-four 998cc liquid cooled engine borrowed from the previous generation YZF-R1. This engine churned out 150bhp at 11,500rpm and maximum torque of 106Nm at 8,000rpm. The engine was mated to a six-speed gearbox with one-down and five-shifting up gearbox.

Its replacement however, the MT-09 comes with an 847cc three-cylinder engine that makes 115bhp at 10,000rpm and 87.5Nm of torque at 8900rpm. It is also mated to a six-speed gearbox. The MT-09 gain where the FZ1 loses, in the weight department. The MT-09 is significantly lighter at 188kgs compared to the 214kgs of the latter.

The MT-09 also comes with a host of new technology, MT-09 gets YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) and D-MODE electronic control systems. The D-MODE electronic control system lets the rider choose between three different throttle-valve control maps, "STD" Mode, "A" Mode, and "B" Mode. The three different modes have different power-providing maps to use in different riding scenarios.

The Yamaha MT-09 is only available with ABS in India and will be a CBU. Yamaha has launched the motorcycle at Rs 10.2 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
