Kawasaki, last week, unveiled the Z125, soon after its first spy shots were leaked over the internet. This new entry-level model marks the Japanese manufacturer’s entry into a niche segment, which has been growing rapidly in Europe, Indonesia and Thailand. This Honda Grom rival will make its maiden public appearance at the Tokyo Motor Show, later this week. Check out the detailed photo gallery of the ‘monkey bike’ -

Kawasaki has gone all out on the styling of the Z125, making it look like a shrunken Z800.

The short wheelbase and ride height makes the Kawasaki Z125 a fun-to-ride motorcycle, rather than a serious commuter.

Though the bodywork has been designed to give it a bulky look, the Z125 is in fact a very compact motorcycle.

The edgy headlamp screams streetfighter, and draws inspiration from its bigger siblings.

The tail lamp has the LEDs positioned in the characteristic ‘Z’ pattern, similar to the bigger Kawasaki streetfighters.

The elongated single-piece seat might have room for a pillion, but the small size might severely restrict its usage.

Owing to its compact dimensions, the wide handlebar is placed pretty close to the rider.

The sculpted fuel tank gets a two-tone design and allows the rider to latch their thighs.

The underbelly exhaust and the monoshock help give the rear profile a clean and minimalistic look.

The swingarm is linked to a monoshock with preload adjustment.

A racy-looking black cowl hides the exhaust manifold and the end can from plain view.

The Z125’s 125cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine has been borrowed from the Kawasaki Athlete Pro moped.

The fuel-injected engine produces 9bhp and 8Nm of torque and is mated to a four-speed transmission.

Despite being an entry-level model, the Kawasaki Z125 gets premium features like USD forks at the front.

The Kawasaki Z125 rides on 12-inch 100/90 profile front tyre, with a 200mm disc brake providing the stopping power.

The rear 12-inch wheel gets a 120/70 profile tyre, and a 184mm disc brake.

The instrument console gets an analogue tachometer and a sophisticated digital display.

The Kawasaki Z125 will be offered in four paint schemes –

Metallic graphite grey

Candy lime green

Candy burnt orange
