- Makes around 6bhp more than the standard model
- Gets fully adjustable WP Apex suspension
- Arriving at dealerships in Europe soon
First unveiled at the 2024 EICMA show, the more performance-focused R variant of the KTM 990 Duke has finally been unveiled for the international markets. This long-awaited version of the naked streetfighter offers better engine performance, higher-spec hardware, and more advanced features.
Powering the motorcycle is the same 947cc, DOHC, parallel-twin engine, which does duty on the standard 990 Duke. However, KTM has tuned the R to pump out 127bhp, which is nearly 6bhp more than the standard model. The torque output, meanwhile, remains the same at 103Nm. Transmission duties are handled by a six-speed gearbox with a bi-directional quick shifter.

Unlike the smaller and more conventional TFT screen on the base model, the 990 Duke R gets a massive 8.8-inch TFT touchscreen dash with offline map navigation. Moreover, fully-adjustable WP Apex suspension with rear linkage ups the game in the hardware department. Other subtle differences between the two variants include a higher seat height of 840mm (15mm higher), increased ground clearance of 210mm (15mm more), and a slightly longer wheelbase on the R model.
The KTM 990 Duke R will be available as a single-seater model with pillion parts available separately. The motorcycle will arrive at dealerships in European markets soon. It is unlikely to enter the Indian shores as the base model itself is not on sale here.
