Driven by the success of the fuel-injected FZ series and Alpha scooter, Yamaha India registered a 23 per cent increase in sales in the last year, as compared to 2013. Despite facing a nine per cent decline in the overall sales of the ASEAN region, Yamaha India sold 5.67 lakh two-wheelers in 2014, as compared to 4.62 lakh units it managed in 2013.
Yamaha says that the fuel-injected FZ series and the new SZ-RR Version 2.0 were instrumental in helping it register a jump in motorcycle sales numbers, while the Alpha and Ray scooters have accelerated the company’s growth in the scooter segment. The Japanese manufacturer currently enjoys a 23 per cent market share of the low-capacity premium motorcycle segment and a seven per cent share in the scooter segment.
With Yamaha returning such numbers since the past couple of years, the company heads are confident of achieving their target of 8.5 lakh units in sales in 2015 and 10 lakh units in 2016. The company is strengthening its presence in India by opening new dealerships and touch points across the country. The company is also en route to increasing its production capacity, thanks to a new plant in Chennai, which will have a capacity of churning out 4 lakh to 4.4 lakh units, per annum.
