Yamaha has revealed the MT-07 at the 2013 EICMA event in Milan, Italy. This new motorcycle is a part of the ‘The Dark Side of Japan’ series which is the tagline for the MT range of motorcycles.
The Yamaha MT-07 will compete with the Kawasaki ER-6N and ER-6F and also the Suzuki SFV650 and SV650S. Prices of the motorcycle have not been announced yet but they are expected to be very competitive.
The MT-07 is powered by a new parallel twin-cylinder 689cc engine producing 74.8bhp of power at 9,000 rpm and 68Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. The motorcycle uses a diamond steel frame and has telescopic front forks which have a travel of 130mm. At 179kgs this promises to be a light zippy motorcycle. Yamaha has deployed 282mm hydraulic dual front disc brakes and 245mm hydraulic single rear disc brakes to bring this zippy bike to halt if need be. The MT07 is visually identical to the recently unveiled MT09 which uses Yamaha's new triple cylinder engine which is likely to make its way to India.
The Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the DSK Hyosung GT650R are the only two 500 to 700cc motorcycles available in India and since the MT-07 is going to compete with these bikes in the international market, we would certainly love to see this competition head to India.
