Royal Enfield Himalayan Odyssey 2013 to be flagged off tomorrow from New Delhi

Royal Enfield will be flagging off the 10th edition of the Himalayan Odyssey tomorrow from India Gate in New Delhi. The event will see 100 riders from across the country undertake a grueling 2500km round trip journey from the heart of  the Capital to the dirt tracks of Leh situated in the Himalayas .

The Himalayan Odyssey 2013 has been divided into two routes – Route A and Route B. Each route will be taken by 50 riders. The 17 day ride will see the riders passing through one of the best looking terrain in the world to the world’s highest motorable road in Khardungla.

As is the case with most journeys of such nature, preparation is the key. Before the start of the ride, man and his (Royal Enfield) machine have to go through a detailed inspection under the watchful eyes of officials from the Chennai based two-wheeler maker.

Fitness plays a very important role during the trip as the rider and chrome thumper will be travelling through a harsh, cold, unforgiving yet incredibly beautiful environment during the trip. The basic fitness test includes completing five km run and 50 push-ups within the span of an hour.

This Himalayan Odyssey has been one of the most sought after two-wheeler expeditions in the country since its inception in 2003. The ride is on a first come first serve basis and sees over 1000 applications a year for the once in a life time journey.

We at BikeWale have been fortunate to get an invitation for the trip. We will provide you with a first-hand account of what each kilometre of the journey is like as well as many pictures of the beautiful Himalayas, so stay tuned to BikeWale for all the details.
