Hero Motorcorp to start exports to Africa and South America

Hero Motorcorp has announced that will start exporting bikes to Africa and Latin America before the end of the financial year as a part of its plans to increase its global presence. The Gurgaon based two-wheeler major has already begun the process of setting up assembly plants in Kenya and Nigeria of which the former would be ready for operations in the next few months. In South America, Hero will focus on the Colombian market and is likely to open an assembly plant there.

Commenting on the development, Anil Dua, senior VP (marketing and sales) said by the end of this fiscal year, we would have entered a few markets in Africa and Latin America.” He however, did not specify the markets for Africa.

Hero will have its work cut out for both markets.  Most of the countries in the African continent are dominated by the sub-150cc Chinese motorcycles while in Colombia, Bajaj, through its assembly partner Auteco, has been selling its machines for close to eighteen years now.
