Honda has started accepting bookings for the third member of the Activa family, the new Activa 125, for a token of Rs 5,000. The announcement was made through the manufacturer’s website, where the scooter had been put up a while ago.
The scooter was first unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo and is expected to be launched sometime this month. Pricing of the bike hasn’t been disclosed by Honda as of yet, but speculations have suggested a price tag of Rs 56,000 for the scooter.
Styling of the Activa 125 seems to be heavily influenced by the Aviator with the crowned headlight and the front chrome bar. The scooter also gets clear lens indicators and a digital console. As the name suggests, it will be powered by a bigger four-stroke, air cooled 125cc engine which produces 8.6bhp and 10.12Nm of torque.
The Activa 125 will be available in two versions, Standard and Deluxe, both of which get tubeless tyres and Honda’s combined brake system (CBS). While the Deluxe will get alloy wheels and a disc brake at the front, the standard version will have to make do with drum brakes.
The Activa has been the highest selling scooter in India since it was launched. The ease of use, build quality, good efficiency and Japanese reliability made the Activa a popular unisex scooter. But now, with the incursion of bigger scooters from Mahindra and Suzuki, Honda saw an opportunity which will be now be taken care of by this new offering. The Activa 125 will be available in four colour schemes- Midnight Blue Metallic, Sword Silver Metallic, Black and Pearl Sunbeam.
