TVS Motor Company has confirmed the launch of a new range of Apache motorcycles next year. The company doesn’t want to stick to the 180cc segment and wants to explore the growing 250cc segment. TVS has announced to launch not one but two to three new motorcycles in the 250cc segment.
The company showcased the 250cc concept motorcycle, called the Draken at the 2014 Auto Expo. This concept carries few design cues from the current Apache range and the production model is expected to launch next year. The company is also planning to explore the 200cc segment by launching a new product there. Along with the new 200cc and 250cc, we can expect TVS to launch a new or a facelift version of the current Apache 160 next year.
TVS claims that it won’t develop a product, if it is not best in the class. To do this, the Chennai- based manufacturer has increased the R&D section by almost 60 per cent. The company is infusing a lot of money into R&D work, new product development and design and has taken the total employee count to 630 members from previous 400.
The sub-250cc is one of the fastest growing segments in India. Each and every manufacture wants to have its presence there. It is no surprise that TVS wants to have a piece of this pie as well. While TVS is concentrating on the sub-250ccc segment, its new technology partner BMW Motorrrad is developing new motorcycles between 250cc and 500cc capacities. We can expect BMW to showcase this new range at the 2014 EICMA expo to be held in Italy.
