2020 Suzuki SV650: Details Explained

Suzuki recently unveiled the SV650 with new colours for 2020. While the motorcycle has been on sales in international markets for a few years, there is no official word about its launch in India. However, the Suzuki SV650 would make for an interesting proposition in the country. So here are all the details you need to know about the motorcycle.

Styling

The Suzuki SV650 sports a simple, streetfighter design language. It features a round, conventionally-lit headlamp with chrome bezel, simple fuel-tank design, and a sleek, upswept rear-end with a single-piece seat. While the SV650 does look plain-Jane for the most part, the exposed trellis frame and bold colour schemes(black/red and silver/blue) add character to the design.

Engine

Powering the SV650 is a 645cc, V-twin engine similar to that used in the V-Strom 650 XT which is sold in India. However, the SV650 produces 76bhp and 64Nm as compared to the V-Strom’s 71bhp and 62Nm output. The engine comes mated to a six-speed gearbox.

Features

The SV650 misses out on most of the electronic gizmos that its adventure-touring sibling boasts of and comes equipped with just a dual-channel ABS and low-rpm assist that prevents stalling. Nevertheless, the SV650 comes with an LCD instrument cluster that displays tachometer, speed, odometer, engine temperature, oil pressure indicator, fuel gauge, and range as well as clock and gear position.

Cycle Parts

The motorcycle rides on 17-inch wheels and has a low-seat height of 785mm. Suspension duties are done by 41mm telescopic forks and a seven-step pre-load adjustable mono-shock at the rear. Braking is handled by a pair of 290mm discs for the front and single-disc for the rear. Suzuki has fitted the SV650 with a 14.5-litre fuel tank and a kerb weight of 196kg.

As we mentioned earlier, there is no official confirmation about its India launch. However, if Suzuki does plan to introduce it in the country, the SV650 will directly compete against the Kawasaki Z650 and Benelli TNT 600i here.
