Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC: What else can you buy?

Triumph has recently launched the Scrambler 1200 XC in India which sits above the already-existing Street Scrambler. With all the premium components, modern features and 1200cc twin-cylinder engine, the big Scrambler carries a price tag of Rs 10.73 lakhs. If you are out in the market with that much of moolah to spend, you might want to consider a few alternatives which we have listed below.

The Scrambler 1200 XC faces direct competition from the Ducati Scrambler 1100 which is slightly expensive at Rs 10.91 lakhs. The motorcycle adorns the Italian brand’s traditional Scrambler styling with a round headlamp, off-set instrument cluster, golden front forks and a high-set exhaust setup. Powering the bike is a 1079cc, L-twin motor which makes 86bhp and 88Nm and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch.

Now, Scramblers fall in the modern-classic category but if you want something more laid-back in the same genre, you can choose one of the cruisers and bobbers from Harley-Davidson. The American brand has the Roadster, Forty Eight, Forty Eight Special and the 1200 Custom which are priced at Rs 11.09 lakhs, Rs 11.04 lakhs, Rs 10.98 lakhs and Rs 10.65 lakhs, respectively. Carrying their own distinctive styling, all these Harleys are powered by the same 1,202cc, V-twin, Evolution motor which produces 96Nm of peak torque at 4,250rpm. This mill comes mated to a five-speed gearbox.

If long distance touring is on your cards, the only tourer in this segment is the Kawasaki Versys 1000. With the burly body panels, this litre-class bike has enough appeal to match with its 1043cc, four-cylinder motor which belts out 118.3bhp and 102Nm. The motorcycle also features a 21-litre fuel tank for lending you a longer range on a full tank.

By paying around Rs 40,000 more over the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC, you can buy Ducati’s supermoto, the Hypermotard 939. It carries a sticker price of Rs 11.17 lakhs. With a kerb weight of 204kg and compact dimensions, the Hypermotard is a profoundly agile machine. Subsequently, the 937cc, twin-cylinder motor of the bike generates 109.8bhp and 97.9Nm, which makes the Hypermotard a fanatic motorcycle to ride.
