5 Highlights of the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC

Triumph has recently launched its flagship Scrambler model, the Scrambler 1200 XC, in India. The motorcycle sits above the Street Scrambler with a larger engine, better hardware and more features. We recently rode the motorcycle around Shimla on varied terrains and you can read about our experience here. Meanwhile, let’s take a glimpse at the five highlights of the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC.

High-tech instrument cluster

Triumph has nowhere compromised on bestowing the Scrambler 1200 with top-notch technology. It sports an adjustable TFT instrument cluster which allows the user to select from a pair of themes. Besides displaying the basic information, this unit also gets a Bluetooth-enabled turn-by-turn navigation system along with GoPro integration which gives an easy access to the action camera content to the rider. Other electronics aids on the motorcycle include torque-assist clutch, ride-by-wire throttle, cruise control, traction control and five riding modes – Road, Rain, Sport, Off-road, and Rider.

Styling

While the Scrambler 1200 looks closely similar to its smaller sibling, it boasts of a more butch stance. With a seat height of 840mm and a wheelbase of 1530mm, the motorcycle is considerably taller and longer than the Street Scrambler. The combination of a round headlamp, straight handlebar and peanut-shaped fuel tank give it a retro appeal but the full-LED lighting and the digital instrument cluster lend it the essential modernity. Notably, the high-set dual exhausts are the main highlight of the design.

Engine

The Scrambler 1200 XC is propelled by Triumph’s tried and tested 1200cc, parallel-twin motor which does duty on the Thruxton R as well. On the Scrambler, it churns out 90bhp of power at 7400rpm and a healthy peak torque of 110Nm at 3950rpm. The smooth-running motor sends power to the rear wheel via a six-speed constant mesh gearbox.

Premium components

For making it equally capable on and off the road, the British bikemaker has equipped the Scrambler 1200 XC with a host of premium hardware. The motorcycle rides on 21-inch wheels at the front and 17-inch wheels at the rear, both being shod with grippy Metzeler Tourance tyres. Suspension duties are handled by Showa upside down forks at the front and Ohlins twin shock absorber at the rear. The same top-notch quality is maintained for the braking setup as well; the bike features a pair of 320m discs with Brembo calipers up front and 235 disc with Nissin caliper at the back.

Pricing

The Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC is priced at Rs 10.73 lakhs (ex-showroom, Pan India). While its direct competitor is the Ducati Scrambler 1100; in terms of styling and purpose, the motorcycle locks horns with the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled. The motorcycles are priced at Rs 10.91 lakhs and Rs 9.93 lakhs, respectively (both prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). Taking into account the 1200cc powerplant, impressive features and capable hardware, the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC is an enticing package.
