5 highlights of the Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight Special

With the Sportster Forty-Eight model already parked in Harley-Davidson's line-up, the American bike maker has launched the slightly more premium Forty-Eight Special in India at Rs 10.98 lakhs, ex-showroom. While the motorcycle retains the same bold and muscular look of the standard variant, it does get a few upgrades that accentuate the bike’s overall appeal. Here are the five highlights of the new Forty-Eight Special.

Blacked-out treatment

While the standard Forty-Eight already packs a healthy dose of blacked-out components, the Forty-Eight Special gets additional blacked-out cylinder head covers. However, the crankcase covers are finished in chrome which give the engine compartment a contrasting look. It also gets bare chrome exhaust shields to match the theme.

Colour schemes

The Forty-Eight Special can be availed with the choice of three colour schemes Vivid Black, Wicked Red and Billiard White. These three liveries have been designed specifically as a throwback to the 70’s custom tank art era giving the bike a retro look. The pricing of the motorcycle is subject to the livery chosen. The Vivid Black colour is the cheapest among the rest and is offered at Rs 10.98 lakhs while the top-of-the-line two-tone custom colour scheme is priced at Rs 11.52 lakhs (both ex-showroom).

Ape hangers

While the standard Forty-Eight comes with a tracker-style handlebar, the Forty-Eight Special features 7.25-inch high ape hangers. The handlebar has been designed to strike an ideal balance of height and width while highlighting the bike’s macho look.

Emulsion rear shocks with screw adjuster

Like its standard variant, the Forty-Eight Special comes outfitted with Emulsion rear shocks equipped with screw adjustment. These, claims the company, soak up bumps while allowing the rider to easily adjust the setup to fit his/her riding style.

Fat front wheel

The Speedster employs a fat front wheel which highlights its inspiration from the lead-sled culture. The fat front wheel is accompanied by a beefy fat tyre that completes the dominating look. The combination also provides a smooth ride and solid handling, according to the American bike maker.
