Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special and Forty-Eight Special launched in India

- Street Glide Special priced at Rs 30.53 lakh and Forty-Eight Special at Rs 10.98 lakh

- Both motorcycles receive a blacked-out custom treatment

- Street Glide Special now gets a slightly bigger motor

Harley-Davidson India has launched the Street Glide Special and the Forty-Eight Special in India. As we had reported earlier, the Street Glide Special has been priced at Rs 30.53 lakh. The Forty-Eight Special, on the other hand, carries a sticker price of Rs 10.98 lakh (both ex-showroom), respectively. Both motorcycles are blacked-out variants of their respective models, the Bagger-styled Street Glide and the Sportster Forty-Eight.

The Street Glide Special sports a traditional American cruiser design featuring a low-slung stance and the iconic Batwing fairing that gives it a classic look. It gets blacked-out components which includes the front forks, fuel tank console, drivetrain, exhaust system and handlebar. It also gets black multi-spoke alloy wheels and stretched saddlebags that further add to the bike’s appeal. 

While the standard Forty-Eight already features a blacked-out theme, the Forty-Eight Special gets blacked-out engine head covers with contrasting chrome crankcase covers and slash cut exhaust tips with new chrome shields. Besides that, the Forty-Eight Special is available in three paint schemes reminiscent of the 70’s art culture, an ape-handlebar and a redesigned seat. 

The drivetrain of the Forty-Eight Special continues to be the same 1202cc, V-twin mill that produces 96Nm of torque and comes mated to a five-speed gearbox. The Street Glide Special, however, received the slightly bigger 1,868cc Milwaukee-Eight 114 mill instead of the Milwaukee-Eight 107 motor on the standard variant. This engine is capable of producing 163Nm of peak torque which is 13Nm more than the 107 unit. Transmission duties are handled by a six-speed gearbox.

Features-wise, the Street Glide Special gets the updated Boom! Box GTS touchscreen infotainment system that is equipped with Bluetooth and voice recognition for controlling the music, navigation and phone functions. The Street Glide Special is offered in five paint schemes.

In terms of competition, the Street Glide Special competes against the Indian Chieftain Dark Horse and the BMW K1600 GLT while the Forty-Eight Special locks horns with the Indian Scout Bobber and the Triumph Bonneville Bobber.
