Bajaj Pulsar 180 Summary

Bajaj Auto has introduced the BS6-compliant Pulsar 180 naked roadster in the Indian market. The updated model shares its mechanical specifications with the Pulsar 180F Neon. Thus, the naked roadster is powered by a 178.6cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor that makes 16.7bhp of power at 8,500rpm and 14.52Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The engine is linked to a five-speed transmission.

The styling cues include a single-pod headlight with twin DRLs and a tinted visor at the front, a muscular fuel tank with shrouds, an engine cowl, split-style seats, and a two-piece pillion grab rail. The cockpit includes the latest, semi-digital instrument cluster. The Pulsar 180 comes in three colour options including red, white and black that are a part of its new Dagger Edge edition series. These sport sleek and angular decals with colours contrasting to their base paint job.

The cycle parts, too, are similar to the Pulsar 180F. The suspension duties are performed by telescopic forks at the front and the gas-charged twin springs at the rear. The braking setup comprises a 280mm single disc at the front and a 230mm single rotor at the back, while the safety net is provided by a single-channel ABS.

The new Pulsar 180 BS6 rivals the Honda Hornet 2.0, TVS Apache RTR 180, and the likes.

Bajaj Pulsar 180 Review

  • Good Things

    • Good performance figure
    • One of the most affordable in the segment
    • Cheap to maintain
  • Could be Better

    • Outdated design
    • Lacks modern features
    • Lacks good fit and finish

BikeWale's Take

The Pulsar 180 is an affordable sports motorcycle targeted at buyers who want a motorcycle with good performance and affordable after sales. This bike is known for its great brand value but when it comes to design and aesthetics, the motorcycle doesn’t excite that much. But it manages to get lots of customers, thanks to good pricing and cheap service.

      A 6 year user review

      Varun Chaudhary

Wanted it since my school days, and bought it in 2016.
      1. Bought it for Rs.89,970/-
      2. The first was smooth as all new bikes give.
      3. Always had been a fan of naked looks, the bikini fairing was the best version.
      4. Talking about the performance and other things, the performance is decent, I got a mileage of 55kmpl in the first 3 years, but later on due to negligence of service center people the bike did not get what it needed and the mileage fell to 40 km but it's fine after 6 years it's a good one for pulsar 180. The power was always great.
Maintenance - first few services were cheap but later due to poor service network and negligence of service center mechanics of Bajaj the cost went up and up. But it was okay as its a street bike, that too in the 180cc segment it's fine. But Bajaj focuses on earning from spare parts and after-sale services hence it could've been a better experience but nvm Pulsar is love.
In 6 years I've replaced the chainset twice, the front tyre twice, the front shocker rod once, clutch plates once, (I ride hard :p)
The rear tyre thrice, the lock set once, the con set once, handlebar keeps on getting loose but the handling is sharp and fine. Overall I spend approx 10k on services and spare parts last year i.E. 2022,
I've completed 54000 kms on it, which pretty decent in 6 years
      Pros and cons
Pros - better fuel efficiency than Pulsar 220
      Power is great
      The looks are killer
Maintenance is low compared to others in the segment.
Parts are cheap in the aftermarket.
The engine is powerful and has better-built quality compared to others in today's time.
      Cons
      Poor bajaj services
Costly parts if u buy them from the agency.

      Tips for other riders

Always go for MRF tyres of same grip which comes when u buy it. Always use genuine and Authorized engine oil. Never replace the exhaust Instead of changing the chain set when it makes sound first check and clean it from every corner, open it and clean the area ( especially near the left side footrest area, i hope u understand what i meant)

I bought this beast in 2014 I never got any type of disappointment while riding. Every day I use to challenge myself with other bikes and heavy vehicles because you won't feel to ride this bike at 40 to 50 kmph you feel that it should be above 80 +plus, I am very lucky to have such a superpower bike in my college life and it will be memorable every time to me a lot of love to this beast from me...

      Nagarjuna

I bought it in October 2021 and white color dagger edge edition.
I was getting of millage 69kmpl with an average speed of 55kmph (shell long ride engine oil)
I reached a top speed 145kmph and a milEage is 25 kmpl (milEage was 25 kmpl with a speed of 120+)
In a single day, I traveled from chennai to sri-rangam (300 km, speed was 95 to 110 mileage was upto 47 kmpl it took 4 hours) sri-rangam to dhanushkodi (sri-rangam to dhanushkodi 250 km) no more hiccups with engine and no more heat with the engine. Service was bad in Chennai anywhere in Chennai it's a bad experience.
Pros: good for daily commuters as well as touring ( don't think about the engine it's very good bs6 engine)
Cons: required broad seats for touring, mono shock, pillion backrest, led headlight, rear wheel abs, instrument cluster light was too high brightness.

      Pablo Escobar

I have been riding this beast for the last 10yrs, my father gifted me this machine on 3rd June 2012 and now it's been almost 10.5yrs from the last 5yrs I'm working and this has been my daily commute for 60kms a day, this machine never disappointed me at any part of my life still, I had applied several modifications to this bike but still, it's running smoothly and now it's been ban in India.
I'll never sell this beast until my last breath whatever the situation is......

Low maintenance cost powerful stylish bike

      Kalyan Pal

This pulsar 180cc bike i have purchased on April , 2016. The total run is almost 11000km till April 2022. The buying experience was very smooth. I have it from pulsar showroom, bennaraghatta, bangalore. The riding experience is very smooth and comfortable. I personally like the look very much. Servicing I have done previously on time for the beginning 2 years, after that last 4 years no servicing done, but the bike runs smoothly, so maintenance cost is very low. Only the original battery that came with the bike runs for only one year. After that I changed the battery and purchased Exide 4 yrs one, this battery is still running well for 5 years.
