KTM bike price starts from Rs. 1,79,023. KTM offers 10 new models in India with most popular bikes being 200 Duke, 390 Duke and 250 Duke. The upcoming bikes of KTM include 125 Duke [2024], 390 Adventure [2025] and 650 Duke. Most expensive KTM bike is 390 Adventure, which is priced at Rs. 3,39,287.

In 1953, businessman Ernst Kronreif became a sizable shareholder Kraftfahrzeug Trunkenpolz Mattighofen which was then renamed and registered as Kronreif and Trunkenpolz Mattighofen. KTM started serial production of R100 in 1954. With just 20 employees, motorcycles were built at the rate of three per day.

The company’s first title was secured shortly thereafter with the 1954 Austrian 125 national championship. KTM first made an appearance at the International Six Days Trials (Enduro) in 1956 where Egon Dornauer secured a gold medal. Racing continued to be a testing ground for production technology, but next in line was its first scooter, the Mirabell. It started providing a factory in 1964. As the company continued to expand, the workforce increased to 400 in 1971, and 40  years after it was founded, KTM was offering 42 different models

The year was 2012 when Bajaj Auto increased its stake in KTM from 14.5 per cent to 47 per cent, and it was also the year when the KTM Duke 200 was launched in the Indian market. Soon after, the development started to show its colours, and in 2008, KTM and Bajaj announced that they were going to develop two new 125cc, 200cc and 390cc mass-focussed motorcycles.

KTM also owns Husqvarna; their  forthcoming Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen models are likely to be made in India at the Bajaj-KTM plant in Chakan, Pune. The news comes after Amit Nandi, the senior vice-president of Bajaj, hinted that a new range of 'made-in-India' Husqvarnas would be built at some point in 2017.

Bajaj plays an important role in this positive change for KTM. The mass-seller Duke/RC series is manufactured at Bajaj's facility in Chakan, and then exported to the world. Some of the markets which KTM-Bajaj exports the KTM Duke/RC to are: Europe, Australia, Nepal, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Colombia, Mexico and Argentina.

  • KTM 125 Duke
Sport bike touring with comfort is a long way to go for KTM.

This is my own experience of owning a KTM 125 DUKE for about 5 years and riding over 22K kms. I got this as my first bike and learned to ride in the same back in 2019-OCT. The bike is really good in terms of handling and ease of riding, performance wise it really makes a difference than the other 125 commuter segment bikes. The looks are nice too, and light weight adds to the easy maneuverability. The main disadvantages of this bike are that it is costlier, has high maintenance cost(same as the Duke 390cc) and the SEATS are HIGHLY UNCOMFORTABLE even for traveling a small distance of 100kms, for every 45 minutes or so you will get a pain in your lower back, especially in the tailbone section. Feels like sitting in a rock-hard surface. Apart from this, the suspension feels good when a pillion rider is seated cause that adds to the grip and weight which causes the bike to grip the road firmly. For single riders in uneven roads in cities, you can feel the smallest of the road patches. Hero X-Pulse is better in terms of suspension for city use with the same mileage figures better power and price. If you are looking for a 125cc bike, better go with Honda Activa or Suzuki Access 125 since, they are easy, convenient for day-to-day use, and less expensive. I recommend renting a bike for 2-5 days to understand how the riding feels on both city and highway before you make a purchase. It may cost you 3-5k but saves you from regretting in future buying a bike you are not happy with in the long run. Don't make the mistake that I did.

Brought SW version for long-distance touring. Will rate the buying experience as average from the KTM dealership since they just only want to get the bike sold to the customer at any cost to achieve their sales target. Coming to the bike, need to keep the engine above 2000 rpm to avoid the bike getting stalled which has happened multiple times for me, post 4000 rpm it is very smooth for a single cylinder. Suspension and tire gave me good confidence to trash bike on bad roads and it did a really good job. Quickshifter is useless and I completely avoid using it. The bike gets Bluetooth connectivity but the KTM app for turn-by-turn navigation is not available on PlayStore so that's also of no use, you can only connect your phone for caller identification. Seat height might make most of us opt for a lower seat variant, I'm 5.11 and it works well for me but while riding standing up, felt the need for handlebar risers as stock height is very low for standing-up riding, and there no way you can grip fuel tank with legs which takes confidence. Braking performance is good and has a good feel and feedback along with the Metzeler tire, even on wet surfaces it offered good grip and confidence. The only concern is fear of puncture due to the spoked wheel with tube, would have been great if they had offered a tubeless spoked wheel. Kept the bike in stock condition and didn't add extra weight by putting in aftermarket crash guards. Did install Barkbuster handguards as I did not like the stock flimsy handguards and also replaced stock mirrors with Double Take mirrors.
