A very worthy companion.

I got my Honda activa 6g in august 2021.For a long time I've cherished this model and finally got to own it. The vehicle feels smoother compared to other models in its category. Riding position is very comfortable even for tall riders like me. Its real test comes when the bike is going uphill and inclines the engine really revs up and the gears go into overdrive.

Tips for Honda Activa [2000-2015]

Servicing has to be done as mentioned in manual.

The scooter doesn't feel as nervous at higher speeds anymore and changing lanes is a lot easier, but there's still a slight flighty feeling above 60 k/h.
The improved handling and stability also doesn't come at the cost of ride quality as the scooter soaks up potholes and undulations very well.

It never shakes on the highway when any big vehicle like truck passes through my side. I love my all rounder activa.

However after six years, bike servicing costs increased drastically due to various reasons like increase in labour cost, spares prices increase, coupled with increase in bike usage etc. Now a days, i get scared to give the bike for service fearing how much they will quote/charge, recommend for spares change etc.

I bought an activa way back in September 2012. I am generally a person who waits for other people to review a new product before buying it. But at that time, there were not many options around. So I took the risk and bought this. Do I regret the decision? not at all.
The first thing that struck me was the refinement of this package. The accelerator is easy on your hand and the vehicle responds instantaneously to your inputs. Also the pick-up is pretty decent.
The next thing I noticed is the lack of vibrations. You feel you are doing a forty when the speedo shows sixty. And on empty roads you can easily pull it to 75+ speeds without almost no vibrations. You can also do lean angles on this vehicle without it losing grip with the ground. More so, you feel some level of confidence doing this. The vehicle stays in line on hard braking. Also the handle does not become light at high speeds. Must have some thing to do with the 60-40 weight distribution.
In the early days, it was pretty much noiseless also. You had to strain to hear the engine running. But after the last free servicing at the end of the first year, the service guys tuned it to deliver a little more power. Now the engine is audible though not intrusively.
So is everything perfect in this package? well, I don't think so. Honda and other websites says that these are the best brakes in this class. However, I still feel that they are not as effective as they should be. There are vibrations at the lower speed range, though these vanish when the speed goes above 20.
The switchgears are not very well located. You really have to reach to switch the high-low beam buttons. Also for ladies the seat is just a bit high and weight a bit heavy. Also i would have liked a city light option on this package. You can just switch on the tail light but not the head light. It would be very good for evening rides.
Lets summarize all that I said (and some more points also):
Pros -
(1) refinement
(2) stability (straight line and at angles)
(3) absence of vibrations (at 20+ speeds)
(4) pickup
(5) head light is really good
Cons -
(1) braking
(2) vibrations at low speeds
(3) position of switch-gears
(4) height and weight (for ladies)
(5) no city light
Other observations
(1) mileage 45km/l even with a heavy hand on accelerator.
Overall, i would rate this scooter with 4 stars.

Bought this scooter in the year 2012. Driven it for more than 65,000 kms. I am in the process of getting a new scooter (inclined towards suzuki access 125). I'm not gonna brief about the looks, since it is very subjective.1. Powertrain - one thing about honda is their engine reliability and you do not have to worry about any niggles as far as powertrain is concerned. I am getting an average of 35-40 kmpl - mix of city & highway. It won't make you crazy whilst twisting the throttle. It does its job of commuting from point a to point b.2. Metal body - no squeak/rattling noise from the metal body. Yes there were minor scratches, dents whilst parking in the malls, railway stations but it had endured all these without much fuss.3. Suspension & drivability - suspension is a big let down. Comfort on both single person commute & pillion commuting will not last more than15 kms. Every time you hit a pothole / speedbump, you have to decelerate considerably, then twist the throttle to make up the lost ground. Puny front shock absorbers need to be changed to maintain whatsoever comfort is provided by the vehicle. Pillion comfort too is not that appreciable to say the least.4. Wheels & tires - currently nearing the end of 3rd set on rear and 2nd set on front. Michelin has been the standout performer of the different sets tried out. Other tire sets tried - mrf (oe fitted) & tvs. Never tried ceat, since many colleagues of mine reported lack of grip5. Servicing and maintenance - honda service centers are pathetic. Once my 4 free services were done, i had the scooter serviced by my neighborhood mechanic. Maintenance costs on an average will not be more than inr 800/- i had incurred a maximum of inr 2500 during 50,000 km service in which v-belt & few other parts got changed. Maintenance is usually hassle-free. Do change your scooter engine oil @ every 2500km and air filter @ 5000kmThough this scooter served me well, without making me stranded on any roads in all these years, i believe honda for the steep price point they demand for their scooters (bs6 versions) begin to infuse more practical & performance oriented commuter products in the years to come. For this very reason, i'm not wiling to go for another honda product as my next choice.. People in chennai, are looking for options other than activa. You can find other manufacturer scooters donning the roads which is not the case 5 years back. Yet, if you are looking for your first scooter, you can opt for honda purely for its reliability and fuss-free experience.
