The scooter segment in India is growing and Hero MotoCorp surely knows where to focus. The company showcased the ZIR scooter range at the Auto Expo and we expect them to reach production soon. The ZIR was shown in two styling packages one called the European look and the other with a flat footboard.
The European-style ZIR gets a smart looking swept back screen though the big visual details are identical to the other ZIR. The second ZIR had a more upright screen mounted on the handlebar for a more conventional look and looked less sporty. Both the versions will be powered by a 157cc single-cylinder engine, which is capable of propelling the scooter to over 110kmph. The engine is a liquid-cooled, 4-valve unit that makes 13.9bhp at 8500rpm and 12.7Nm of torque at 7,000rpm.
The ZIR gets hydraulic discs at the front and rear. It will get a 9-litre fuel tank to ensure its dynamic ability and get an acceptable range. The ZIR siblings get projector lamps, daytime running lamps, LED indicators, alloy wheels and an all-digital instrument cluster. Also, the brake callipers will come painted to match the body colours.
Although Hero hasn’t confirmed anything officially, rumours indicate that the ZIR scooters will be launched in India during the first half of the FY 2015-16.
