  • The real and practical bike made for an Indian by an Indian

    Vasishtan

I am yet to test ride it, i am giving my well-analysed opinion as a middle-class youth, on what i felt worthy about this bike.Given the price range, this bike clearly wants to take on the pro 160cc bikes. This bike is designed at the value for money proportion and not set to appeal the youth targeting for extreme performance, aggressive looks and stunning high-speed capabilities. This bike targets the so-called old school yet a majority of Indians, who look out for a bike that equally loves them and their wallets. This bike has gotten everything, what any middle-class or upper-middle-class man or a youth would seek for. Right from an ideal mileage to a strong good range, from renown build quality guarantee of hero motocorp to inexpensive maintenance and spare parts, from the passive-aggressive looks to a widespread hero service, this bike has been carefully equipped with all the necessary specs, while the good ride quality or the strong build not being compromised.Any middle-class man, would not rev it to the red lines daily or do not cruise at above 100 kmph. All he would need is a bike with strong low and mid-range, a bling him to zip past the quick traffic and signals and quite a nimble characteristic to aid him in cutting between two vehicles easily. Not to forget, a bike that is low on maintenance and returns comparatively a higher fuel efficiency against its competitors.Hero has carefully worked on where they would want cut short the prices and effect those sacrifices in setting a low price point for the bike. For eg., 1. The battery is ac and not dc, which means, a part of electrical power goes from the accelerator throttle. Although the trend has shifted to dc batteries, i do not see a need to change from ac. Ac electricals go easy on your battery and result in an improved battery life against the dc batteries. Given the aho rule, this would help you save on your money in replacing your battery. 2. 130mm tyres instead of 140mm tyres. Does not make a huge difference, but still a good price cutting technique.3. Borrowing spare parts from its younger siblings. This does save a lot of money in designing costs and manufacturing of new equipment. Although it is a let down for those who expected new designs, ultimately design is a matter of taste or choice. So if you like it, nobody is going to stop you from liking it.4. Continuing with the air cooled engine. While other 200cc counterparts have oil/liquid cooled engines, hero has utilised the tank shrouds to also act as an air dam to help keep the engine temperatures, low. 5. Limiting the top-end performance. This is an intelligent move. Limiting top end power delivery will help utilise that power to low and mid-range, hugely help in achieving desirous fuel efficiency and at keeping the engine temperature at bay. Although technically its 200cc, this bike should be considered as the 200cc version of a 160cc bike. Some myths by cool youngsters on youtube who hate this bike.1. "bike does not have a great top-speed." - who even cares for such speeds in indian roads? the bike is stable and smooth in ideal indian cruising speeds.2. "hero has never had a fruitful premium bike so far" - every success has a start point.3. "bike looks old-school and not aggressive" - maybe people who love a family bike or don't prefer funky bikes would opt for this? taste is a matter of choice. In a nutshell, this is a bike for those who want to upgrade to a 160cc bike for its increased capacity and not for racing purposes. Cruising at 80 kmph in a 160cc bike and in a 200cc bike is definitely a noticeable change. The engines breathe relaxedly in the 200cc motors.Although personally, i do not advocate for hero motocorp, i genuinely feel hero has really understood the indian buyer's practicality and ground reality and has reflected their understandings through this bike. To be honest, when i saw this bike at autoexpo i was another idiot who showed negligence at this product when i was looking to buy a 160cc bike (thankfully i have not purchased my first bike yet). Now, not only i regret my negligence but eagerly waiting to get hands on this machine once it reaches my city, trichy. Will update an honest pros and cons review once i do the test ride. I got nothing to gain, nothing to lose.Sincerely, a middle-class youth.

I bought this bike in the month of sep 2018, in looks the bike is good but there are a lot of technical glitches, the quality of material used in this bike is not up to the mark, the engine sound has changed completely, makes a loud knocking sound and hero has come up with some changes to the head of the engine talking about the overall experience this bike is pathetic the brake pipes are routed in such a way that the cables are cracking which results in the front brake not working, abs is a buying feature for this bike and if that doesn’t work then what’s the sense, in my view hero is not capable of making such bikes anymore, i am in the middle of a war with hero about their quality and trust even if i hate someone to the core i will not suggest you to buy this bike or its upgrade the 200s, i invested my hard earned money in this bike and if your safety is not guaranteed then what’s the sense of buying a product like this. I request you all to first dive this bike on a highway and only then go for this bike, it"s not worth your money you are putting in, it"s better to you shell out some more money and go for any other bike than hero bikes. Total waste of money.

Bought it after 1 yr waiting after many searches and comparisons. Those who needs 200cc performance bike like ns 200 or rtr 200 please don't opt this. This bike actually belongs to 180cc segment. It competes with rtr 180, ns160,hornet 160. When compares with these models xtreme 200r wins in almost all areas like pricing and in terms of technical specifications Pros Pricing(low for an abs model)Braking(good in abs)Fuel economy (43/ltr)Looks(muscular body with graphics especially grey with orange and black with red graphics stickers models are good)Easier overtaking (good low end torque 0-60 in 4.6 sec )Wider tyres both front and rear Cons Traditional headlight and indicators (no led headlight)Low top speed ( you can't expect much)Could have been fuel injection system. Felt some stiffness on handle(it may be due to new one)Headlight design is not up to mark.

    Priyabrata Minz

Bikes design is good but could have been better. It's mileage is around 38 km/lit .Good riding for city as well as highway. Bike is smooth with good braking.Seat could have been little long.Bike looks like glamour. It lacks the sporty look. But is ok .Cannot say about servicing as bike is new .But easy to handle and above all good bike, as bike is very powerful and fuel efficient and not noisy.
