I believe most of the highly rated reviews are either paid or spawned by the company. Below is my review as i have this bike 4 star for touring - have been on a road trip from mumbai to goa and by god i felt like god cause the ride was smooth, less time in changing gears and more time enjoying the ride cause the highway was traffic-less. The grip and stability is fantastic and can easily surpass 150kmph. Reaching mumbai from goa within 6 hour is possible on this bike. The mileage is a 1 star cut point as 18kmpl is just a say , i spend around 4k just on petrol for one side mumbai goa ride. Don't take this bike for granted, it is heavy and requires full attention, it's releasing the beast with just a little throttle so never ever ever drive this bike under influence to avoid disaster.2 star for city ride - this bike is not made for inner city ride , 1200 cc produces tremendous and unbearable heat below the city that makes you feel as if your inner calf if burning and probably the bike would catch fire if stuck in traffic for a long time. The clutch is really heavy and probably your wrist is going to suffer if stuck in traffic and you have to constantly change gears. The mileage, well company says it's 18kmpl but that's when all the cards are jn your pocket, free roads, good climate long ride and then it will give around 16 -17kmpl. Otherwise it gives 10 or below if you are stuck in traffic. I travel from navi mumbai to bhayander and when i am stuck in thane ghodbundar road, i feel like i am in hell. One star is for the look and the other star is the way people look at you in traffic. The si distributor is good when it comes to servicing but sometimes you have to wait for a week or 2 if u want some parts to be replaced. Maintaining the bike is not much of an issue but yes it needs attention and you should opt for 3 small rides in a week just to keep the battery and engine warm. Do not park the bike upfront in inclined position as the bike is heavy and it would be really difficult and embarrassing to pull it back just to remove the bike from parking. The foot rest of the bike is a bit weird and it's difficult to stop and balance the bike cause of the foot rest but once you get adjusted with the stance then it's not a big problem.Always opt for 400-800cc bike for inner city, remember with more power comes more heat problems and by default india has one of the horrible summer and traffic to deal with, so keep that in mind before buying a bike. Use 150 -300cc for daily commuting and 600-1200 cc for night rides and long tours.

  • Harley-davidson makes a sportster more worthy of the name.

    Kesav

The sportsters are an important range for harley-davidson india. Light, sporty and agile, these bikes try to explore a customer base of a different kind of rider than the traditional harley-davidson purists - riders that seek a sporty bike with agility and handling rather than pure straight line performance. The 2017 harley-davidson roadster is the new sporty harley and with this bike, h-d india will be hoping to find a new fan following in the sales charts.

What harley-davidson describes as garage-built custom design, the roadster looks quite attractive and sporty, with retro looks complemented by blacked-out styling to give that dark edge. The mirrors, belt guard and headlamp are black as the oval air cleaner which has a black insert. Then there are slotted black exhaust shields and a blacked out powertrain. A short, clubman-ish handlebar sits on top of the pushed back, retro headlight and the rider sits in a slightly crouched position looking out over the neatly laid out single-pod, part-analogue, part-digital instrument console. In a way, the new harley-davidson roadster is reminiscent of the '60s sportsters yet has all the modern touches.

The engine is the air-cooled 1200cc evolution v-twin which also powers the forty eight as well as the 1200 custom. First introduced in 1984, the 1200 evolution makes about 98nm of torque at 4,250rpm, and like other harleys, the power is in the low and mid-range, so ride the torque and it pulls cleanly. But rev the engine hard, and it protests, with vibrations creeping in and the air-cooled motor making its displeasure felt with noise and harshness. On the long open highways of rajasthan, let the roadster settle in at around 120kmph, and life is good, for hours on end. There's more power on hand for more speed, if needed, but the engine doesn't sound happy at high revs as mentioned earlier.

The biggest change though is the suspension and brakes; the front suspension is an upside down 43mm fork (not quite the kind of equipment harleys are known for), and it doesn't dive too much under hard braking and offers a level of sure footedness that is quite likeable. The rear suspension is adjustable and the brakes - with dual discs at the front and abs, offer confident and sure-shot stopping power. The seating position is on the sporty side - a tad aggressive for a cruiser and more suited for jaunts around town than long hours in the saddle covering inter-state distances.

Yes, the roadster looks retro-cool, is quite an impressive handler for a 250kg motorcycle and offers a fun, sporty cruiser, as long as you're not expecting sportbike-like acceleration or performance. In fact, it is the looks which begin to grow on you and you begin to appreciate how cool this bike is. The suspension though, while being sporty, is stiff enough to send road undulations up to the rider, compromising ride quality - not a very happy feeling when you encounter broken sections on the highway. But that's not my biggest grouse.

My problem with the roadster is the footpeg design and position. The pegs are spread wide out and awkwardly positioned, so every time you encounter a red light, or even when you have to manoeuvre the bike in a tight parking lot, the footpegs get in the way of your legs. Yes, the footpegs can be folded up, but it's too much of an annoyance to keep folding them up every time you place your feet on terra firma. That's not a deal breaker though and with harley-davidson's exhaustive list of aftermarket accessories, this 'problem' can be managed.

At rs 9.7 lakh (ex-showroom delhi), the harley-davidson roadster offers a sporty cruiser which has a lot of positives, most of all, super cool retro looks and handling that certainly underscores its sportster heritage. With ample ground clearance which is ideal for indian conditions, the roadster offers an attractive proposition in the harley-davidson sportster range - a cruiser with personality, handling and practicality.

this is a hell of a bike , which you can find in this category and this price range...really an amazing bike and mark my words whoever reads this review , this has a massive power and the torque cannot be explained unless or until guys go for a proper spin , I own this 1202 cc monster for a year .
PROS : the pros which I would like to share in the bike are:
    1. the bike is an eye-catching one in the public where u get a rich feel when ride this hell of a monster on the roads.
    2. the vibrant and classy colours are really great and Harley has done a great job on the paint job..
    3. the service might be quiet expensive but the work and detailing to work is just amazing worth each penny you pay.
    4. this is a unique machine which is at an affordable price.
CONS : the small problems with this bike is :
    1. this has a small 11L peanut tank which is not useful for long rides , Harley should work on their fuel tank , so that their customers are satisfied
    2. after a certain rpm limit , the bike starts hearing a looooot and small vibrations starts occurring , and if ur riding this bike without any safety gears like riding pant or any jeans pants , u might start getting a burning and an itching sensation , so wear proper riding gear
ALWAYS RECOMMEND : WEAR ALL YOUR RIDING GEARS WHILE GOING FOR ANY RIDE LIKE
    a proper helmet
    a proper comfortable gloves
a well steel protected shoes (orazo recommended)
a nice riding pant or knee guards
last is a nice and good padded riding jacket
DON'T THINK OF THE PRICE , SAFETY IS THE FIRST PRIORITY......

I had been eyeing this for a while and then on a lazy sunday afternoon decided to visit an hd showroom. Took a test ride and bought it by the end of that week. Set me back by a good 11 something lakhs but then you don’t take savings to your grave. You buy an hd roadster and take it to manali and nainital and speed up to 150+ on jaipur highway. I’ve so far done only this much with it and i love it. It has only managed to surprise me but then i’m an amateur at it. Would soon be joining the gurugram’s hd bikers club. If you have any doubts worry not and simply go for it. You won’t be disappointed. Surprisingly the drag-coefficient is much better than your usual cars (i have a passat). Make sure to keep it covered as there’s too much dust that blows in air which can clog instrumentation panel or the details.Buy and have fun and wear a helmet always.

  • Always opt for 400-800cc bike for Indian roads.

    Rohit Trivedi

  • Would buy it over and over again without second thoughts

Like I mentioned in my review try keeping the bike covered when not ridding as the dust that blows in excess where we live tends to clog instrumentation panel or get into the details of the bike. Which are many.

  • Would buy it over and over again without second thoughts

    Akhil

    Tips for other riders

Like I mentioned in my review try keeping the bike covered when not ridding as the dust that blows in excess where we live tends to clog instrumentation panel or get into the details of the bike. Which are many.
