Stop worrying about what others think. Ride what you like. You're riding it, not them, they can ride their own.
But the sportster is capable of so much more. With a few additions and modifications, it can be transformed into a competent touring motorcycle. A bike that can keep up with the bigger, purpose-built baggers. Even Harley believes that the sportster is capable of long miles.

It is really a great bike. If your budget allows. I am very happy with the bike's performance and look. Many peoples suggested me to avoid it due to maintenance costs.

The bike runs very grounded on roads. The stability and handling are awesome. You can choose to cruise peacefully or make it roar and storm the road. You can accessorize it and convert it into a tourer. The Michelin scorcher tyres are too good. The low seat height also gives proper handling and stability.
Pros - Handling, Looks, Power and acceleration, Stability
Cons - Ground clearance, Trouble with improper roads.

    Tips for other riders

Just needs one service a year or 8000 Kms, whichever is earlier. It's better to ride on good roads. Bumpy roads are a problem on this bike because of very low ground clearance. You should start it once a week for longer battery life and ride for 30-50 kms. Service cost is 10-12k per service. The tyres should also be changed after their periodical wear and tear. Harley Davidson has a Pan-India roadside assistance program at an extra reasonable cost. So you don't have to worry about getting stuck anywhere with your ride.
