    Introduction

Contrary to popular opinion, I’ve always believed thigh bags are incredibly versatile luggage systems, especially if they’re done right. And that’s exactly what the Viaterra Waterproof Thigh Bag turned out to be. It looks properly built, offers usable storage, can be worn in multiple ways, and most importantly, Viaterra claims it’s 100 per cent waterproof.

I’ve been using this bag for several months now and have clocked well over 5,000km using it. It has also doubled up as my everyday sling bag. So, here’s a long-term take on what works, and what could’ve been better.

    Things We Like

    Waterproof construction

The bag uses a three-layer laminated waterproof fabric along with heavy-duty waterproof zippers to deliver 100 per cent waterproofing. And in my experience, it genuinely works as advertised.

I’ve ridden with it in pouring rain and through dusty conditions, and not a single drop of water or speck of dust has made its way into either the main compartment or the external pocket. That’s reassuring, especially when you’re carrying your important items like a wallet, phone, or a power bank.

The quality of the material feels premium, and the bag still cleans up easily with a simple wipe using a damp cloth.

    Usability

I’ve used the Viaterra Thigh Bag pretty much everywhere possible. It has been my companion on multiple 1,000km-plus rides, endured heavy rain, worked as a waist pouch at motorcycle festivals, and even served as my everyday sling bag.

And I must say, it comes in extremely handy to store your wallet, keys, cards, and other utility items such as earphones, power banks, etc.

The external carabiner is especially useful for stowing away bike keys. I’ve relied on it extensively during multi-day bike rides. However, the carabiner gave up recently, and I had to replace it, and that’s something worth noting.

    Build Quality

That small issue aside, the bag has held up pretty well. Viaterra has paid attention to durability. The bag gets box stitching at all stress points for reinforcement and waterproof, radio-frequency welded seams to ensure water stays out.

Over-extended usage under varied weather conditions, there has been no visible wear and tear. More impressively, the bag has retained its original shape without sagging or deforming. That speaks volumes about the overall construction quality.

    Versatility

This is where the bag truly shines. It can be used as a thigh bag, waist bag, or even a sling bag. All you need to do is adjust the strap length and attach or remove the thigh strap as required.

It features swivel-type CR quick-release buckles for the waist and conventional buckles for the thigh strap. So wearing the bag both on and off the bike is easy!

    Comfort

Comfort is another strong point. The rear gets a breathable padded sponge that improves airflow, especially during long rides. The elastic thigh strap allows freedom of movement without feeling restrictive.

The swivel CR quick-release buckles rotate depending on how you wear the bag - thigh, waist, or sling - which enhances comfort and reduces awkward pulling.

    Things We Didn’t Like

    Limited Storage Space

While it can hold a fair bit, the 2L capacity does feel slightly inadequate. For the asking price, Viaterra could’ve offered a bit more room.

On the positive side, you do get two internal flat mesh pockets inside the main compartment and a quick-access external pocket for flat items like credit cards or a wallet. But overall, a bit more space would’ve made it even more practical.

    Noisy Buckles

This might sound like nitpicking, but over time, the swivel CR quick-release buckles have developed a slight noise. When walking, especially while using it as a thigh bag, they tend to make an irritating sound.

    It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s noticeable.

    Expensive

At Rs. 2,599, the Viaterra Thigh Bag isn’t cheap. Yes, you get genuine 100 per cent waterproofing and solid build quality. But there are other brands offering similar features and more storage at a lower price point.

To Buy or Not to Buy?

Royal Enfield Himalayan [2015-2023] Front View

Despite its small shortcomings, there’s no denying that the Viaterra Waterproof Thigh Bag is an excellent luggage option. It is well built, versatile, comfortable, and genuinely waterproof. It also looks good, which is another plus in my books.

Yes, the storage space could’ve been better, and the pricing is on the higher side. But if you aren’t overly budget-conscious and want a reliable, weatherproof thigh bag that you can use in multiple ways, this one deserves serious consideration.

I’d say buy it, and chances are, you won’t regret the decision.
