Introduction

The Indian riding gear industry is booming and how. We now have jackets and pants that are suited for specific applications, and the more the choice, the better it is for us riders. I was looking for an urban jacket for my daily rides to the office, but I didn’t want the typical, lightweight ones with Level 1 armour.
Enter the Rynox Delta GT. It is made for what Rynox calls ‘Spirited Road Riding’, but I think it would serve as a good urban and weekend run jacket, with the safety net of CE Level 2 armour.
The Construction
Right out of the box, the Delta GT comes across as a much better-built jacket than some of the other Rynox jackets I’ve used in the past. The profile, the cut, the stitching appears to be neater than before, and I also like the shape of the sleeves. It has a sporty cut, and they’ve got it so right that it doesn’t require velcro straps to adjust the fit.

In terms of safety, there is 600D Polyester Ripstop material on the shoulder panels. The shell, too, is made of 600D polyester to offer abrasion resistance. Adding to the safety aspect is a hump at the back of the jacket. Not only does that help with aerodynamics while being tucked behind the windscreen of a sportsbike, but it also helps keep some distance between the helmet and the road surface, in the event one slides down the road, during a crash. This is similar to what we see on race suits.

As for the armour, the Delta GT gets CERROS Zero-G Level 2 protectors for the back, shoulder, and elbows. On the chest, there are the CERROS Auxtech Level 2 protectors. These are made in India, just like the Zero-G and are designed to offer a good deal of ventilation.
The Features
Speaking of ventilation, and given the hot and humid climate of Mumbai, the expansive mesh panels are more than welcome. With the summers upon us in India, I’m waiting to see how well these panels work in keeping me cool.

The jacket has two pockets on the outside and one on the inside, which are deep enough to carry a few items like keys or a wallet. Lastly, the jacket has reflective panels on the back and the shoulders to improve visibility in the dark.
What’s the Plan?
The Rynox Delta GT will largely serve as my daily jacket when I’m commuting to the office or heading out for a quick spin on the bike during the weekend.

During my time with it, I’ll be assessing its resistance to daily wear and tear, the effectiveness of its ventilation system, the resistance to discolouration after multiple washes and exposure to harsh UV rays. Be sure to check out the final report after a few months.
