    Introduction

The Rynox Cypher GT 2 mesh riding jacket has been with me for a month now, accompanying me on my daily commutes and occasional long rides. The jacket has been designed to be one for everyday use, and well after using it for everyday rides, here’s what I liked and didn’t like about the jacket:

    Things That I Liked

    The Fit

The Rynox Cypher GT 2 doesn’t feature any adjusters on the arms except the zippers at the end of the cuff that tighten the sleeve. The lack of adjusters doesn’t come off as a let-down, as the fit is super snug and comfortable. The sleeves also stay in place even when taking a more committed riding position on a sportier bike.

Another reason why I don’t have an issue with the lack of adjusters is that it saves a bit of time. There’s no need to fidget with the adjusters to get the perfect fit as per your requirements.

    The Ventilation

Riding in the Mumbai heat is a struggle, and even more so when you are out on the roads wearing a riding jacket. The 70 percent mesh construction of the jacket ensures good airflow throughout, and for me, the mesh construction on the inside of the arms really made the difference. Getting air all throughout the front and also my arms made riding even in peak heat a breeze.

    The Weight

Usually with riding jackets, the weight becomes an issue when wearing one for extended periods of time. When I usually go on rides, I tend to take my jacket off to get some air and ease the load on my shoulders.

I didn’t find myself doing this when wearing the Cypher GT 2. Even with additional protectors on the chest, the jacket didn’t feel cumbersome. Walking around in the jacket didn’t feel uncomfortable either, so on longer rides, the time I usually wasted removing and putting the jacket back on was saved.

    Things That I Didn’t Like

    Flexibility

If there’s one issue with the jacket that made it difficult to wear, then it is the lack of flexibility in the sleeves. When bending the elbow to open or close the helmet strap, or flip the visor up, it puts quite a bit of pressure on the elbow and bicep. This is a trade-off that had to make because of the lack of adjusters.

It is a bit annoying, and I felt it would go away with a proper break-in after prolonged use, but so far that hasn’t happened. So bending your elbow to do things like putting on a helmet strap or even looking at your phone is a bit difficult.

    What Is Next?

Riding in the city with the Cypher GT 2 daily has given a decent idea of how the jacket holds up. The next step is using the jacket for touring to see how it performs. By putting it through this test in the coming month, it will be easy to get a good idea if the Cypher GT 2 could be the only jacket that you need.
