Why the Performance Spark Plug Kit?

Does a low-revving, low-compression motorcycle like the Goan Classic 350 really need a performance spark plug kit? No. But there’s no harm in using better materials and tech for a more reliable riding experience. And this is where the Ngage Performance Spark Kit comes in.

For those not in the know, Ngage Powerparts, as the name suggests, makes and supplies performance parts for motorcycles. It manufactures air filters for most India-made bikes and is also an official distributor for brands like Ohlins, NGK and Koso. And as it turns out, even though it carries Ngage branding, you are still getting NGK tech and build here.

    What’s in the Box?

The Performance Spark Plug Kit has three parts. There’s a double iridium spark plug, designed and engineered with NGK. You get a stock-length HT wire in red. And finally, a suppressor cap which doesn’t carry NGK branding, but is built with the same ethos as the Japanese spark plug giant.

The kit costs Rs 3,000, which is almost half of what NGK-branded kits sold for. Having said that, to put things into perspective, a stock spark plug for the Goan Classic 350 costs around Rs 300. The Ngage double iridium plug, meanwhile, costs about three times as much. So even though it’s more affordable than NGK, it is still a significant jump over stock. So, is it worth it?

    The Promise

An iridium spark plug has a bunch of advantages over a regular nickel unit. Yes, it’s expensive, but it lasts significantly longer without losing much effectiveness. That’s down to the hardness of iridium and the fact that the plug runs hotter, which helps reduce deposits that can affect performance.

Having iridium on both the centre and ground electrodes also means a more stable plug gap and less wear over thousands of kilometres.

As for the high-tension lead, Ngage says these are flame-retardant, ultra-low resistance cables that help improve spark energy while also offering a high degree of electromagnetic suppression. This is essentially an NGK racing cable, with a high-temperature silicone outer jacket and a solid copper core. And being red, it looks racy too.

Finally, the suppressor cap is less prone to shorting than stock ones. It is pricier, no doubt, but should also last longer.

According to Ngage, the kit brings multiple benefits — a more stable idle, better standing start acceleration, fewer misfires, improved combustion, and more consistent performance across conditions.

    Should You Get One?

After installing the kit and using the bike for over a month, one thing is clear — performance remains consistent and predictable across different riding conditions.

With the other add-ons like a performance filter, free-flow exhaust, and FuelX, the Goan certainly feels more alive now. Throttle response is more alert, it picks up better from lower revs, and it doesn’t feel as strained at higher revs as it did earlier.

Is all of this down to the spark plug kit? Unlikely. That would be a stretch. But it does seem to be keeping up with the rest of the mods and ensuring the bike runs cleanly and without fuss.

So, should you get one? For outright performance gains, maybe not. But for longevity and consistency over the stock setup, it does make a case for itself.
