First Look Review

Harley-Davidson has mentioned that it will launch its entry-level touring motorcycle, the Road King for the Indian market. The company used to sell the Road King motorcycle in India couple of years ago, however, it was discontinued due to low sales.

The 2016 Road King is a part of Project Rushmore - a marketing strategy for launching the most number of new motorcycles in Harley-Davidson’s history. This entry-level touring motorcycle is loaded with features that make this American motorcycle a good buy. A lot of time has been spent on styling this motorcycle. It gets a big round headlamp that used to be seen in Harley’s twins in the 60s along with dual fog lamps to take care of night riding. The badging on the fender and tank looks quite artistic and goes very well with the bike’s big body proportions.

The Road King gets a tank-mounted instrument cluster that has been surrounded by chrome to give it a classic feeling. The Road King sports ABS that takes care of wheel locks and air-adjustable suspension that comes as standard. When it comes to comfort, the Road King takes care of it with ease. The two-up seat is well cushioned and looks quite nice. There are full-length footboards to maximise the comfort. There is cruise control mode as well for those who want to relax during long rides. Saddle bags comes as standard.

The Road King is powered by an air-cooled High Output Twin Cam 103 engine, which powers most of Harley-Davidson’s Touring range. This engine displaces 1689cc and delivers a peak torque of 142Nm through a six-speed transmission, which transfers power to the rear wheel via a belt drive.

We are expecting Harley-Davidson to price the Road King at around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and will be sold in India as a completely built-up (CBU) unit. The Road King will join the Street Glide Custom under the Touring range.
