BMW Motorrad has taken the wraps off the all-new R1300 R, a roadster that pushes the limits of performance, tech, and minimalist styling in the naked sport segment. It replaces the R1250 R, the R1300 R continues with the brand’s boxer engine layout, but with a cleaner, more compact, and significantly more powerful new 1300cc twin-cylinder motor.
This new engine churns out 143.5bhp at 7,750rpm and a massive 149Nm at 6,500rpm — making it the most powerful boxer engine BMW has ever built. This engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and is housed in a new main frame that replaces the earlier tubular steel unit. The overall package is not only lighter.
Visually, the R1300 R leans toward a more functional and compact roadster look, with fewer frills. The styling is minimalist yet muscular, highlighted by the single projector LED headlamp, exposed frame sections, and an aggressive tank design. Despite the stripped-down aesthetic, BMW has loaded it with features like radar-based active cruise control, multiple riding modes, full-LED lighting, and a 6.5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity.
On the electronics front, the R1300 R gets dynamic traction control, cornering ABS, hill-start assist, and even optional gear shift assist. Adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning are offered through the optional Riding Assistant package — a rarity in this segment.
The new BMW R1300 R is likely to be launched in India in a few months, with a price tag not less than Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
