Bmw review

4 days ago by Aryan Agarwal1 view

The bmw gs 310 is an excellent bike! very comfortable for long rides and it can take you to places difficult to reach, its torque will surprise you! very stylish so it steals sights of people when the y see it! you can ride it for over 280 km and depending on your driving style, the full tank may last over 300 km. Very economic and a very suitable bike for adventures and for the city. We know bmw is not a cheap brand of motorcycle so it´s good to analyze first if you will give the maintenance it needs. However, the 2020 model of the 310 gs corrected few issues with previous models and for you to go to the mechanic with this bike, it will take a while. The abs is simple great! the feature to disconnect it whenever you want will give you plenty of fun! the only con i see on this bike besides the maintenance cost is that, you would be likely to upgrade it to a 650 gs or to a f750 gs in a very short period of time! in general, this bike gives a lot of fun and security when you ride it.It you are thinking on getting one go and buy it! it will give you a good gs riding experience!.

  •  4A grade bike with a 3rd class low rev torque. 3 weeks ago by Mrinal Mani

This is undoubtedly an eye catching motorcycle. You'll often notice people turning their heads to the bike. It is also very comfortable and has "excellent" braking capability. Never seen a bike with such terrific braking performance. However, it does not seem to be very reliable.
On the first day of delivery, the bike stopped after 5 km and we had to tow it back to the garage. Next day the starter motor was changed and it was fixed. Point to be noted, the motor of a brand new bike had to be changed in just one day. Ok fine, let me take that as a technical exception and not be judgmental about that. After all it's a machine and perhaps bad luck. But no, it doesn't end there. Over the next one month, the bike again stopped several times (more the 10 to 15 times) in the middle of the road due to two reasons:
    1. Over heating
    2. Taking the clutch and releasing accelerator.
Now, every now or then I would see the engine temperature reaching over 100c even when riding at 40-50km/hr. When I called service people they said 100c is very normal because 105c is the limit. Just 5c below the limit every now and then doesn't seem normal to me. One fine day the bike stopped in the middle of the road and refused to start because the temperature reached over 105. Though it eventually did start after 20 minutes, but what the hell? it's not a 200hp bike that heat management is so difficult.
Apart from this, the bike has stopped several times when when I applied full clutch and released the accelerator. Infact riding this bike was like a sore. I hope it doesn't stop!
Before this i had yamaha fazer and take my words that bike never stopped because of over heating or because of engaging the clutch.
Another thing is that this bike has a very very bad low rpm torque delivery. It is useless to drive the bike below 4000rpm. At low revs, one wrong gear or a slight quick release of clutch and the engine begins to knock out. This makes low speed driving a very bad experience. Not just me but several people who have tried my bike have ended into sudden engine turn off because of bad low rev power delivery. My yamaha fazer was better at low revs.
The bike though become fun after 4k rpm but it's a pain below that. Also the power delivery is highly non linear. It comes in bursts after 4k and again somewhere after 6k.
After first service of the bike after 1000km, the heating issue was solved and switching off when taking clutch also reduced significantly.
One more thing i think could be better is the speed. With my brother sitting at the back, which is mostly the case, the bike struggles reaching 120km/hr. I don't mean it can't reach more than 120, but the time it would take to cross this speed will require an impractical stretch of free road.
So for all practical purpose, we can find it reaching 80 to 90 easily on the delhi ring road with moderate traffic. So for me, well this is a 90km/h bike, just wish it could be 120 or so.
    To sum up
    1. Stunning looks and some how the brand value (really?) adds to it.
    2. Very comfortable, glides through rough roads.
    3. Very good breaking performance.
    4. Very bad low rpm power delivery
    5. Speed slightly lower than expectations.
Why 4 starts even after all this? well i think i have got used to riding it and the overall ownership makes me feel a 4 star like satisfaction. It's not only the engine you see when we talk of how you feel owning a particular bike.
A million dollar question would be, if you removed the brand value would i still rate this 4 stars? honest answer... No. I would rate it 3.5 stars. So the extra 0.5 stars just for the ego boost of owning a bmw? umm... Again a good question but you know...
Would i recommend this bike? well if you've ever thought of buying a ktm, then probably no. If you're more of a refinement person then yes it is a bike worth buying.
Given the option of 100% refund, will i buy a different bike? no
Out of the box, but i decided this bike over the ninja 650 which i was initially planning. No it was not the price, it was the feel. Even today i will not swap this with a 650.

Looks is a head turner, public will take selfies if you ride to the suburbs and park it even for few minutes.

Low end torque is felt nice while basic off-roading.

Yes, the BSVI compliant engine of the G 310 GS has come become smoother than before. However, in the mid-range, the engine still feels coarse especially when you are doing some spirited riding. When you reach close to 6,000 rpm, the buzz from the motor can be felt on the tank and also the seat. If you can manage to get over that, the GS can be reasonable at speeds of 110 km/h. While you can push the motor further, it does feel strained at higher speeds.

It may not have been time enough to justify a mid-cycle update, but bmw has taken the opportunity of updating their g 310 series along with the emissions compliance upgrade. We’ll be honest, the first time around the g 310 gs left a lot to be desired. On the bs4 bike, vibrations were through the roof, the build quality left lots to be desired and the front suspension dove like a kamikaze plane in off-road situations giving the sense that the gs was built more for the road than anything else. Finally, there was the price that was absolutely ludicrous. Bmw though have taken the learning curve and this new bs6 version promises to be everything that we hoped for from the g 310 gs, to begin with.

The BMW gs310 has always been an intriguing package. It has been held off mainly due to the pricing. So when BMW motorrad India decided to cut down the pricing of the 310's by a significant margin the market responded positively. So well that the manufacturer couldn't meet up demand, thus making customers wait for months. BMW motorrad proved that above all pricing is the key to success of a product in India.
I was looking for a comfortable machine with adequate performance and decided to jump into the bandwagon and booked myself the 310gs. For someone who used an rc390 for the past few years maybe its a downgrade in terms of performance but still I wanted something to ride the distance with a pillion and I am very happy with my choice and managed to clock around 5000km till date.
The looks of the gs310 specially with the revised paint scheme and headlights is really something to talk about. It definitely looks and feels like a much bigger bike and wouldn't look out of place even with a company like the Triumph Tiger. The bike definitely turns heads and grabs attention wherever you take it mainly because of the badge value and due to being a rarer machine compared to something like a KTM.
The build quality is also commendable and it is easily one of the best built bikes at this price range. But that is up until you get to inspect an rr310. The apache comes mostly with the same components resulting in similar build quality and even more features. When you have decided to buy the gs310, you are essentially buying into the brand that is BMW. So its not worth comparing the the gs310 with the apache but you can't deny the fact that the apache is serious value for money and an excellent bike.
When it comes to the performance, there is nothing fancy to talk about. Don't expect the kick you get from a KTM but still you are faster than most bikes on road with an elegance to it. Performance is leanier with good midrange grunt. You could cruise easily at around 100 km/h all day long and that is what is needed for an adventure tourer.
A thing that all reviewers complain about the 310's is vibration and yes there are minor vibrations that creep in towards the tank and foot pegs, but trust me the vibration are far from discomforting and I have managed 200km stints at one go with ease. Also a thing to be noted is that the bike runs on mineral oil up until first service and then goes to fully synthetic. You will notice a significant improvement in refinement after the first service. A similar case can be seen with the mileage too. Initially i was a bit sod with the fact that the bike returned only around 25kmpl when my rc390 could do around 30kmpl. But as the odometer clicked forward the bike has improved and now i am getting around 35kmpl maintaining 90-100kmph at highways.
The bike comes Michelin Tourance tyres ensuring very good grip on road and on light trails that I have taken the bike to. Also the brakes are bybre with steel breaded lines and they ensure good stopping power but first time adventure tourer riders be prepared to live with the nose dive under breaking. The suspension which is the trump card of the bike is exceptional and the most comfortable one you could get at this price range. Seriously it glides through all surfaces and you will forget the habit of breaking on seeing seed breakers and pot holes. It is that good.
Before buying the bike i had referred to many reviews and forums from which i could learn that almost 70% of all bs4 owners have reported battery or alternator related issue. I frankly disregarded them hoping that things would be sorted out in the bs6 version. But within 3 months my bike started showing trouble in starting and I had my battery and starter motor replaced under warranty. Hope this issue is sorted in the new batches of bikes. The thing is that BMW Motorrad has high expectations and faith in the bikes quality that they are providing 3 years unlimited km warranty and for 15k you can upgrade it to 5 years unlimited km which is great. The service cost may seem very high at first but considering the fact that service intervals are at every 10k kms and the whole BMW brand thing, the price can be justified.
So all things considered the BMW g310gs is an amazing all round package and is definitely worth it for someone who is looking for an adventure tourer with finesse in the 3-5 lakh Rs price bracket.
