Bajaj Pulsar 150 Summary

Price: Bajaj Pulsar 150 price for its variant - Pulsar 150 Single Disc is estimated at Rs. 1,12,068. The price for the other variant - Pulsar 150 Twin Disc is Rs. 1,16,210. The mentioned Pulsar 150 prices are the average ex-showroom.

Bajaj Pulsar 150 is a street bike available in 2 variants and 6 colours. The Bajaj Pulsar 150 is powered by 149.5cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 13.8 bhp and a torque of 13.25 Nm. With front disc and rear drum brakes, Bajaj Pulsar 150 comes up with anti-locking braking system. This Pulsar 150 bike weighs 148 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 15 liters.

The Bajaj Pulsar 150 is the highest selling 150cc commuter bike in India. Despite it being long in the tooth, the combination of muscular style, good fuel efficiency and value for money makes it an extremely popular motorcycle in the two-wheeler market.

The styling might not have been updated for a long time, but the motorcycle has received new colour schemes and variants over the years. In order to add spice to the recipe, the company has introduced the Neon series wherein the motorcycle adorns a matte metallic grey colour scheme with contrasting neon orange or yellow highlights. However, the Neon model loses out on tank extensions and engine belly. Besides that, the motorcycle continues to feature a split seat design, sporty decals for the single and twin-disc models.

It uses a 149.5cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine that is fuel-injected and BS6 compliant. It delivers 13.8bhp and 13.4Nm of torque and comes mated to a five-speed transmission. The Pulsar 150 is suspended by telescopic front forks up front and dual springs with adjustable preload at the rear. The braking setup consists of a disc brake at the front as standard and the choice of a drum or a disc brake at the rear. All variants of the Pulsar 150 feature a single-channel ABS system as standard fitment.

The motorcycle is offered in six paint schemes – black-grey and black-red for the single-disc model, black-blue and the same black-red for the twin disc model and neon red, neon yellow and neon silver for the new Neon series. Bajaj has also introduced the Pearl White and Saffire Blue colour options that are a part of its new Dagger Edge edition. These two paint schemes sport bolder and edgier decals.

In its segment, the Pulsar 150 competes against other executive 150cc commuter bikes like the Honda CB Unicorn 150, Hero Xtreme Sports, Yamaha SZ-RR V2.0 and the TVS Apache RTR 160.

Bajaj Pulsar 150 Expert Opinion

The old workhorse has had a new breath of life, courtesy a BS-lV update. We find out what it is like

What is it?

The upgraded Pulsar 150. Upgraded, because it needed to meet the new-for-2017 BS-lV emission norms. There is nothing cosmetically different about it other than a blanked-out headlamp switch and a new set of graphics. If you look closely you’ll see rim tapes as well. Other than this, there isn’t anything that will differentiate it from any older Pulsar model.

How does it ride?

The same as any Pulsar 150 – quick off the line, and a strong mid-range leading up to a top end that is slightly out of puff. Considering the competition though, the 15bhp/12Nm figures are quite impressive. However, this advantage feels like it might only be on paper and not in the real world. Nevertheless, for the target market, it is a nippy product that will help slice through traffic. Handling over the years has improved, and the ride/handling balance is one that errs on the side of city manoeuvrability. Out on the highway, crosswinds tend to upset the Pulsar rather easily. Special mention needs to be made of the front brake – it is a grippy, progressive one with gobs of feel. The tyres are Eurogrips that help contribute to its fuel efficiency, but we’d have preferred to have a little more grip under braking, considering the power of that front disc.

The seating position is a rather strange one, and the larger you are, the more uncomfortable it becomes. The seat is also a little too soft to be comfortable over long rides. Build quality is great, though, with the paint being especially good-looking, and the carbon-fibre finish around the clocks giving a neat touch of sportiness. It gets the standard set of features for the class – an analog tachometer with digital speedo, odometer and twin trip meters. In an age where everyone seems to be going all-digital, the analog tacho is a pleasant retention for those of us who are old school.

Anything else I should know?

It is the same bang-for-your-buck Pulsar that we’ve had all these years, and it hasn’t changed. It feels like one of the older-generation 150s with its vibrations and styling cues, but the poke off the line is enough to satisfy those who have been riding the new generation of 150s as well, which is commendable.

Why should I buy one?

Because you want maximum bang for your buck. The Pulsar is a cheap and cheerful alternative for those who want performance on a budget. The spares pricing has always been one of the strong points of the Pulsar range, and the 150 is no exception – this is one easy-to-maintain motorcycle.

Where does it fit in?

The Pulsar 150’s (₹ 77,000) direct rival is the Honda CB Unicorn 150 (₹ 76000), but one can throw the TVS Apache RTR 160 (₹ 77000) and the Yamaha SZ-RR (₹ 72000) into the mix as well.

1. Nuvo 'Foul Plugs' helmet Not on sale for a while now, this helmet meets ECER22-05 ratings and has a double-D ring strap all at a very affordable price. Not to mention a very neat little cartoon story as well. Price: (approx) ₹ 6000

2. Scorpion Hat Trick Mesh/Textile jacket Although not on sale for a while now, the Hat Trick is a jacket that is protective yet allows decent airflow. The fleece liner keeps you warm enough, and the waterproof liner makes it truly impermeable, even in a Mumbai monsoon. Drying it out takes a while, though. Price: ₹ 15600 (Scorpion Phalanx)

3. Royal Enfield Spiti riding gloves Made for comfortable touring, these short-cuff gloves offer a lot of comfort right from the first ride. Price: ₹ 3200

4. Joe Rocket Phoenix 2.0 pants Mesh is a wonderful thing in our heat, and the Joe Rocket Phoenix mesh pants manage an ideal combination of protection via the removable armour and airflow. Price: ₹ 9600 (Phoenix Ion)

5. Royal Enfield long riding boots With a little inspiration from both off-road boots and touring boots, the RE long riding boots are comfortable and yet protective. Price: ₹ 11,000

I have been using this bike for the last 14 years, and now going to buy a new one. nice bike for daily usage and long rides with the family camper to other vehicles.
The maintenance cost is less compared to other vehicles, By changing the engine oil as prescribed by the showroom we will get a good life for the vehicle and will get good resale value.

      Bike with a difference

      Ranjeet Jha

Pulsar 150 is really a bike with a difference. It is easy to maintain and value for money. It’s muscular and sporty look. I am driving this bike with a happiness mode every time. Thanks, Bajaj for Launching this bike.
It has an aggressive seating posture but the performance and the torque which it gives are unbelievable. Best bike in this range than other companies. Pulsar 150 is a completely mind-blowing machine that will blow your mind.

      Akash Kshetri

The buying experience of this bike was good. I've been using this bike for more than a year but now in just 3 months, it's starting to show some problems. It required much maintenance as compared to other bikes in this segment. Looks are decent and performance is decent but starts reducing very early because of its clutch plates. Its clutch plated are very bad the get grind very easily.

      Sai Kumar

The Pulsar 150, an epitome of reliability and performance, stands as a stalwart in the commuter motorcycle segment. Its sleek design, coupled with robust engineering, makes it a favorite among riders seeking a blend of style and substance. Keep your motorcycle clean, both inside and out. Regular washing and waxing not only improve aesthetics but also help prevent corrosion and maintain resale value.
