Benelli TRK 502 Summary

Price: Benelli TRK 502 price for its variant - TRK 502 Standard is estimated at Rs. 5,84,902. The mentioned TRK 502 price is the average ex-showroom.

Benelli TRK 502 is a adventure bike available in only 1 variant and 4 colours. The Benelli TRK 502 is powered by 500cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 46.9 bhp and a torque of 46 Nm. With both front and rear disc brakes, Benelli TRK 502 comes up with anti-locking braking system. This TRK 502 bike weighs 228 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 20 liters.

The TRK 502 is a middle-weight adventure touring motorcycle from Benelli that has been built around a steel trellis chassis. It is powered by a 500cc two-cylinder, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor that is capable of churning out 46.8bhp of max power at 8500rpm and 46Nm of peak torque at 6000rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox.

The motorcycle has a kerb weight of 235kg which is slightly on the higher side for a middle-weight tourer. Fuel tank capacity stands at 20-litre which allows for fewer stops for refuelling. Suspension duties are handled by beefy 50mm inverted forks up front and a monoshock at the rear with preload and rebound adjustment. The TRK 502 has a ground clearance of 190mm and a seat height of 800mm. It sits on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends shod with Pirelli Angel GT tyres. For braking, the TRK 502 comes equipped with 320mm dual discs with radial calipers and a 260mm single disc with floating piston caliper at the back. Benelli offers the TRK 502 with dual-channel ABS as standard which is switchable.

During the BS6 update, Benelli made a few subtle changes in the TRK and added new features. The BS6 edition gets backlit switchgear, aluminum frame knuckle guards, new handlebar grips as well as larger mirrors. Even the LCD console sports a different layout with an orange back lighting accompanied by an analogue tachometer.

Benelli has priced the TRK 502 BS6 edition at Rs 4.79 lakh (ex-showroom) which makes it Rs 30,000 more affordable than the previous BS4 model. In its segment, the motorcycle doesn’t have any direct rival but faces the closest competition from the Kawasaki Versys 650.

Benelli TRK 502 Review

  • Good Things

    • Has great road presence
    • Excellent on long distance tours
    • Pricing is quite attractive
  • Could be Better

    • Mediocre performance
    • Limited service reach

BikeWale's Take

The TRK 502 is a middle-weight tourer that has been developed to do long distance runs with ease. This bike has great road presence, but due to its high weight, it's difficult to ride it in the city.

Benelli TRK 502 Expert Opinion

This is the new Benelli TRK 502. It is now BS6 compliant, a lot cheaper than the outgoing model, and it also gets some new additional features. Now, for those who have been a fan of Benelli for the really good exhaust sound their bikes make, well, you won’t be disappointed with this one. The TRK 502 does turn heads and not just for its exhaust sound but also due to its sheer size.

Introduction

Front View

This is the new Benelli TRK 502. It is now BS6 compliant, a lot cheaper than the outgoing model, and it also gets some new additional features. Now, for those who have been a fan of Benelli for the really good exhaust sound their bikes make, well, you won’t be disappointed with this one. The TRK 502 does turn heads and not just for its exhaust sound but also due to its sheer size.

This Benelli is a whopping Rs 2.28 lakh cheaper than the known Kawasaki Versys 650 and Rs 2.07 lakh cheaper than the recently launched Honda CB500X. So, we were quite excited to ride this bike and find out if it makes sense to purchase one or to go with the more expensive options.

The Visuals

Left Side View

First, let’s talk about the most impressive aspect of this Benelli – its road presence. The bike is big, burly, and to be honest, it looks quite intimidating – for the guy who is going to be on that saddle and also for the guys who are going to look at it at the traffic signal. I think the Italians know that there’s a big market for motorcycles that offer size and great proportions.

Front View

The TRK 502 has an aggressive front – thanks to the presence of a large headlamp unit and a sharp front beak. Then there’s this large windscreen that amps up the overall look at the front. Move to the side and you will notice the large 20-litres fuel tank and the tank shrouds along with fat seats and the tail section. There are other bits like the large hand guards, tail rack, and LED lights throughout that makes this motorcycle look a bit more premium than it is.

The Package

Instrument Cluster

The TRK 502 is loaded with some features that make it quite enticing. For example, you get these large handguards that feel quite solid, then there’s a USB charging point, adjustable clutch, and front brake levers.

Front Headlamp Cowl

The bike also gets LED lights all over, hazard lamps, and dual-channel ABS. The attention to detail is quite good too. Like, the size of buttons is quite large which makes it extremely easy to operate. Behind these buttons is a blue backlight that looks super cool in the dark. The company has also given two extra buttons to be used for auxiliary lamps.

Engine From Left

Talking about its performance, the TRK 502 gets its power from a 500cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor. This unit makes 46bhp and 46Nm of peak torque which is a decent figure for a bike of this size. This engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox.

The Ride

Front View

Let’s first talk about the comfort this motorcycle offers. The overall riding ergonomics are extremely comfortable. It is relaxing and doesn’t demand a lot of work, especially for long-distance rides. Then there are these large seats which offer a great amount of cushioning and support. Benelli has given this adventure tourer a few things like large footpegs, windscreen, and not to forget, the 20-litres fuel tank which makes you stop less for fuel, thus reducing the overall fatigue level. The suspension setup is not entirely plush, but it does go quite well through some of the bad roads we encountered.

Front View

Coming to the performance of this Benelli, well, this motor feels extremely refined, especially when you are riding in the city and touring comfortably on the highways. The overall power delivery is linear and quite predictable too. But the tractability of this engine makes things extremely easy for the rider. The bike can do as low as 45kmph in sixth gear and that means you don’t really have to change gears often, leading to less fatigue.

Rear View

But the TRK 502 weighs quite a lot, and hence, there's a drop in the power-to-weight ratio. And that means the overall performance goes for a toss. This is why the TRK 502 doesn’t feel thrilling when you twist that throttle fully. Usually, with a bike this size, you want to feel the fun, you want to feel that wind as the bike accelerates faster, but this is something that is missing on this Benelli.

On the road, the bike feels planted and stable. Be it in the city or the highway, the TRK 502 manages to give out an experience that is easy to deal with. But at low-speed rides, especially while filtering through traffic in the city, the top-heaviness of the motorcycle does bother sometimes. The brakes work fairly well though. The bite, the progression, and the feel are appreciable too.

Conclusion

Front View

Now, let’s agree to the fact that the Benelli TRK 502 is not a typical touring motorcycle. It is big. It is heavily built and the overall performance isn’t up to the mark for a bike in this segment. But then, when you look at the pricing and the kind of features and experience it offers, automatically you start considering this motorcycle and I think you should. I’ll tell you why. This motorcycle actually checks a lot of boxes of a typical Indian buyer. It has an immense road presence. It sounds really nice. And then it offers good long-distance comfort – for the rider as well as the pillion.

So, in short, TRK 502 is for people who can’t afford the Kawasaki Versys 650 or the Honda CB500X. But still want a big motorcycle that can tour. And for Rs 5.78 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), it’s a good motorcycle to get home.

I bought this bike last year only, I got to know about this bike from a friend of mine and I just fell in love with it just by looking at it the power the feel of riding it the road presence everything is just awesome
I have ridden this bike for more than 5000 km now and not a single issue is faced it is very comfortable to ride for long routes with no back pain you can cover 500-600 kms in a single day without any problems. The bike looks massive and pleasing to the eyes wherever you go all the eyes will be on you as if you are riding a Triumph Tiger 1200
I got my first service on 1000 km and 2nd just last week on 5400 kms and no extra money I have spent on this giant.
Pros - Very powerful, road presence, comfort riding,
Cons- The only major con is the weight I'm 5'11" and 80 kg still this feels heavy so for short guys I won't suggest this bike.

I have owned this bike past one and a half years it's a good bike for long touring and occasionally riding it gives more riding pleasure and comfort bike weight is no problem for my riding style it gives more stability and more confidence on highway braking side is okay but not too good sounding of this machine is good it gives more road presence. Finally, I am saying I owned two Benelli Trk & TNT 300.

      TRK 502 a users opinion

      Cnsuresh

Guys, I have the bs4 variant of the TRK 502. I can say this is one hell of a bike that amazes you each time you set out on a tour. The bike is super comfortable on highways and capable of running triple digit speeds for hours on the saddle. Well designed to go on highways, village roads and where there is none. However it's that too heavy for city commute but it isn't bad. What surprises you is the engine cooling system, even during city rides the bike is not heating up too fast. Only missing element is a mobile navigation tripper which should be provided at this cost. Service costs are high, yes that's correct. Benelli should work to bring this maintenance costs down if it really means volume business in India. The new bike should have addressed a few issues pertaining to the tank design which is not very comfortable when you stand on the pegs and your knee guards do leave scratches. Seating at 800mm is quite tall for anybody less than 5ft 8inchs. I believe the new seat profiling is better. Fuel efficiency is decent with the bike returning 23kmpl on average on city + highway rides. What you will hate is the headlights, they are just there because you need them but they don't do any good, the beams are skyward. So, go for aux lamps if you ride at night. The pricing is quite decent considering the competition is also heating up and there are the 300s and 400s that cost you almost the same money. The rear seats are really nice for pillion, however the pillion has to mount the bike before the rider can mount as it's quite tall for average Indian women. It's a delight to ride and I have done about a dozen over 300 km trips and the bike has never let me down. The tyre's are good but you can't do cornering tricks on this one, it's meant to be a Tourer that can get you from point a to point be safely and reasonably fast. The bike though is underpowered for its size, you won't feel it as the power deliver is very clean without stutter and brashness. Finally, this machine comes with almost everything a Tourer needs right out of the factory. But read me right, it's tough to get accessories outside the showroom and you need your customs guy to help you out if you need any. Well, I am enjoying the ride and I hope you too will. Cheers!!

Aux lamps essential. Go for external service which is far cheaper and use 10W 50 shell full synthetic oil. The engine is a smooth.

My personal review after 2 years ownership

      Harsh Jamwal

Buying this beast my dream love at first sight, actually driving experience is so nice I never get any problem on road, looks are Awesome everyone thinks it's a Ducati product but as all you know its beneli, servicing is good but so expensive, availability of parts is more worse than its servicing you have to wait minimum 1 or 2 months and parts are quite expensive , showroom can easily tight your pocket, pros - best 500 cc bike in this price tag and best for those who love to tour, cons- high price of servicing and parts , if your bike broke down in midway you can do nothing that time, less service station network in India . you have to take very cautious during rides and carry extra parts .
