  • Royal enfield bullet electra

    Arun

Style i would assume the styling of the electra twinspark is an acquired taste, but to my opinion the design cues are somewhat confused. It looks like it would have been called a retro styled bike if we were still in the 1980s. It is a retro design, but isn't particular to any decade of design. The tailpipe is astonishingly beautiful, so is the paint job on the fuel tank.

Engine performance, fuel economy and gearbox it is quite evident that the engine is powerful. Given that this is a 350 cc bike, one would assume it would have a top speed that would allow it to outpace a 150cc pulsar, but that just simply isn't the case. The gearing is ludicrously short. Here are my estimated top speeds:

    1st gear - 18kmph

    2nd gear - 33kmph

    3rd gear - 45kmph

    4th gear - 58kmph

    5th gear - 75kmph

that's right, 75 kmph is the speed you can expect to take it upto. I have taken it upto 85 kmph but it felt like the handlebars might have fallen off while the engine exploded. The gearing is truly pathetic.

It averages about 35kmpl with harsh riding which is reasonably good.

The only thing good about this engine is that weight will not be a problem, it will keep its slow pace with or without a pillion rider.

Ride quality & handling the handlebars tranfer a lot of vibrations, especially at moderately high revs. Apart from this it sits quite comfortably on the road. The characteristic bullet exhaust sounds good with the stock exhaust, you won't get sick of the way it sounds.

For a bike that weighs close to 200kgs, this bike handles quite well. Apart from having to move it out of tight parking spaces and awkward situations, you won't be disappointed with how flickable it is through traffic.

Final words i bought this bike and immediately realised the front disk brake was delivered bent. Took it to the service station where they try their best to dismiss any problem, they greased it up and attributed the 'steeping' in the brakes as something that happens on new bikes. A few moments later the grease wore off and the stepping was back. Pleading with them to do something with the brake will yield you to just pay more without anything being done. I finally decided to take my bike in for a service and ordered the brake disk be changed without telling them why.

This is where things get interesting. They tried to convince me that they had changed the , but unfortunately they hadn't. The bend in the disk was still visible. They tried theyre best by polishing it in front of me to convince me it would 'wear in' and the stepping would disappear. I refused and asked them to change the disk in front of me, they did and voila, the problem was solved. It was nonetheless a supremely bitter argument to resolve a matter of safety. I never want to go back to the service centre and as a result will be selling this heavily mis-managed piece of history.

Other incidents include my clutch wire snapping mid-ride and nearly causing me to crash into traffic.

If you do decide to buy this bike, or any royal enfield for that matter, make sure you have a close friend who happens to be a mechanic or else be prepared to watch as the authorised mechanics of royal enfield slowly disect your engine when you ask for a disk brake change. You would be much better off with an avenger even it is completely unoriginal.

Areas of improvement better, competent service. Complaint boxes.

    Pros

torquey engine, handling, well finished fuel tank and paint job, beautiful stock exhaust pipe

    cons

unimaginably low top speed, poor assembly of parts, vibrations, service

  • Enjoy riding with trouble.

    Indranil Srimani

The riding experience will good with this bike. I have done lots of off road travel through this bike. The performances were quite good. Major issues with this bike are following:

    1. Gear issue: you will face trouble to change gear and in few days you will have to change your entire gear set

    2. It is required to change clutch plate several times

    3. Self start issue is real challenging here. Even kick start used to give trouble.

    4. Too much expensive (every 2.5 months) after riding of 30 k kilometer.

    5. Oil seal problem is a chronic with enfield.

    6. Electrical issue is also there in bike. No one can judge whether is a problem of bike or battery.

  • The bike you shouldn't buy!

    Debjit Adhikari

The buying experience would not be termed as unique when i found out that the bike didn't come with a leg guard. The back rest for the pillion rider need to be cushioned as it was just a thin rod which gave immense back ache if put pressure on. Riding experience isn't exciting too with a lot of backache & body ache culminating from a very jerky ride once you cross the 80 km mark. It might get smooth after 100 but not safe. At 120 it seemed that all the parts will start falling apart. Looks are ok but performance is bad. The only bright side is the fuel efficiency which give over 40 km/liter for long distances. Braking is not very efficient for a bike of this size. Servicing this bike is a nightmare. Once you cross the warranty period you realise what a big hole this bike is going to dent in your pocket. After spending more than 25k per year this bike is anything but good. After 5 years the only thing that is still the company's fitted is the engine. You have to change nearly everything after each service. It seems this bike is kind of emotionally involved with the service station. The silencer falls off if you are not careful. Pros -good looks & fuel efficiency. Cons - everything.
