Yamaha India to launch a new scooter by June 2013

India Yamaha Motor will be launching a new scooter by June 2013. This new model will target male riders and will carry some of the design cues from the Yamaha Ray.. The scooter will sport a 125cc engine and is also expected to be planted with good riding dynamics.

The company is focusing more on the scooter market, due to the tremendous growth that has been seen in this segment recently. “Our focus is scooters. It is the fastest growing two-wheeler category in India. By 2015, the share of scooters in overall two-wheeler segment is expected to double to 40 per cent from 20 per cent at present,” said Hiroyuki Suzuki, CEO and MD.

The new Yamaha scooter will directly compete with Suzuki Access, Honda Activa and Piaggio Vespa. We are expecting this new scooter to be priced between Rs 48,000 and Rs 55,000.
