EICMA 2016 : Yamaha T7 Concept breaks cover

Yamaha has unveiled a stunning creation in the form of the T7 Tenere at EICMA 2016. This bike is a concept for now, but Yamaha officials did confirm its intention of launching the production version.

The engine on this Dakar rally-replica bike is the same CP2 700cc parallel twin engine that powers the Yamaha MT-07. But, the chassis is new and has been designed to take abuse that’s comes standard with dual-sport riding.  The concept sports an aluminium fuel tank, quad LED headlights, a skid plate, carbon fairing and a custom exhaust from Akrapovic. It uses high spec KYB upside down forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The bike tips the scale at 180kg and just like all other dual-sport motorcycles the T7 Concept has a high seat height of 895mm as well. 

The Japanese manufacturer has co-developed this motorcycle with its rally team in France, R&D team from Italy and GK design from Netherlands. The production version is expected to arrive in 2018 and should replace the XT660 Tenere. 

Meanwhile, this is what Yamaha has to say about the new T7 Concept: “Many existing mid-size adventure models are perceived as being too road oriented and too sophisticated, and are unsuited to real off-road riding. The adventure world needs a new kind of motorcycle that can offer the genuine long distance versatility and pure durability of the original Tenere, combined with contemporary design plus cutting edge engine and chassis technology.”
