Ducati to unveil new Scrambler and 1408 superbike for EICMA next month

The main focus for the Ducati at Intermot 2016 was its new range of motorcycles under the brand – Supersport. But the Italian manufacturer made sure to display a few of its bikes which have been upgraded for 2017. However, things are looking a bit different for EICMA next month, where Ducati plans on unveiling an all-new Scrambler and a 1408 supersport superbike.

The all-new Scrambler, dubbed the Desert Sled, is expected to be coming with a bigger engine. The teaser also shows higher adjustable suspension, bigger tank and some knobby tyres to handle longer dirt roads. In addition, it also features a bash plate, spoke wheels and upswept exhaust to boost its off-road capabilities. It seems like Ducati is going for more of a dual purpose motorcycle than the typical scrambler.

The Project 1408 is expected to be the Superleggera (‘super light’ in Italian) trim of the 1299 Panigale. The previous Ducati Superleggera (Project 1201) was an extremely rare superbike based on the 1199 Panigale, and featured a host of weight saving measures and state of the art technology. Ducati’s microsite previews the Project 1408’s highlights, including the carbon fibre monocoque chassis and subframe. However, this spy shot reveals that the Project 1408 will also get new wheels, cut outs in the fairing to improve ventilation and a carbon fibre rear seat cowl.

The 1408 and the Scrambler are both being teased with November 7 as their unveil dates, which incidentally is the first press day of EICMA 2016. Expect Ducati to make these motorcycles available in India. We will update you with specifications, details and expected price on the day of the unveil next month.
