Pulsar CS400 and V15 to drive domestic sales for Bajaj

Bajaj Auto is keen on its upcoming Pulsar CS400 and hot selling V15 to drive up domestic sales. The Pune-based motorcycle maker is said to be pinning their hopes on the upcoming sports naked motorcycle to drive its domestic growth for the next few quarters.

Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto Limited was quoted saying, "In the value segment, our market share is quite low. V15 is the single biggest opportunity for us to better our share in the value segment. We will launch a new SKU from same platform over the next 18 months at a gap of every six months."

Shortly after its launch the Vice President of Marketing for Bajaj, Sumeet Narang, had said that he is expecting that the monthly sales for this bike will stay close to 15,000-20,000 units a month. The V15 sold only 1,442 units in February because of limited production. Soon after, Bajaj said it would be increasing the production numbers of the V15 to 1,000 units a day at its Pantnagar and Waluj plants. In March, Bajaj sold 16,532 units of the 150cc motorcycle. However, in April it sold 24,057 units and has kept this trend going averaging between 20,000 and 30,000 units.

Coming to the CS400 which is rumoured to be launched next month, Bajaj will likely expect the motorcycle to see competitive sales in its segment and not setting the two-wheeler sales charts on fire. The company is looking at these motorcycles to fill the segments they are losing out in. Domestic sales of motorcycles for Bajaj Auto turned have been on a decline, after three successive years of progressive decline. 2016's domestic sales for Bajaj were at about 1.9 million motorcycles, though higher than the previous year, was however lower than 2012's domestic sales of over 2.5 million motorcycles.
