Honda takes off Unicorn from its website

Post the launch of the CB Unicorn 160, reports had suggested that Honda will stop selling the 150cc Unicorn in the Indian market, though the Japanese manufacturer never confirmed these rumours. Now though, Honda has taken off the Unicorn from its Indian website, indicating that the motorcycle has been officially discontinued in the Indian market.

The Unicorn has been one of the top-selling 150cc commuter motorcycles since the model was first introduced in 2005. Built around a diamond frame, the Unicorn is powered by a 150cc single-cylinder engine. This air-cooled unit produces 13.3bhp and 13Nm of torque and comes mated to a five-speed gearbox.

With the launch of the Unicorn 160 though, Honda had four motorcycles in the 150cc to 180cc segment, which might lead to cannibalism. Also, the popularity of the Unicorn could have led to a slowdown in the sales of the CB Unicorn 160 and the CB Trigger.

The Unicorn scored well in terms of refinement and reliability and has earned a good reputation for its versatility and ease of use. Though its no-frills nature didn’t make it popular among enthusiasts, it has been a favourite among the Indian customers who are looking for a hassle-free commuter motorcycle.
