Triumph has announced that the base Tiger 800 XR motorcycle sold in India will now be locally assembled at the company’s facility in Gurgaon. As CKD models attract lower taxes than CBUs,Triumph's Tiger range now starts at Rs 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) instead of Rs 12.34 lakh.
The Tiger 800 XR is a dual sport motorcycle, which will now share the line-up with the two new Tiger 800 models – the XRx and the XCx. It is built on a tubular steel trellis frame and is powered by the same 799cc engine. This 12-valve inline three-cylinder unit delivers 93.7bhp and 79Nm of torque through a six-speed transmission.
Triumph has captured a huge chunk of the Indian premium motorcycle market, thanks to the wide range of motorcycles in its line-up. Starting CKD operations in India is a very smart move as this will help the British manufacturer offer its bikes at a comparatively lower price than its rivals, without compromising on its profits. The Tiger 800 XR is available in three paint schemes – crystal white, phantom black and matt khaki green. It competes with the other middleweight adventure bike – the BMW F650 GS.
