Let’s agree that our government comes with some incredible ideas when it comes to making our life easy and better. Some are really good, whereas some really doesn’t make sense, like the one we are going to talk about it in this article.
If the traffic cops find anyone over speeding on their motorcycles or cars, they will be heavily fined or face suspension of the driver’s license and things just don’t stop there. The government is taking the social embarrassment route to curb the over speeding menace. If found over speeding, the name and the photo of the offender will be published in local newspapers. The government assumes that, by doing this, the offender will be socially embarrassed and won’t repeat the same mistake. The same agency will recover the cost of the newspaper advertisement from the offender.
The government will introduce this in the new draft of the Road Transport and Safety Bill in the second half of the session, and if passed, it believes that this will play a major role in reducing the number of accidents in the country. While we appreciate the government’s effort to reduce the accidents, we wonder if this “social embarrassment” tool will really do the trick. It should rather focus on technology and infrastructure, through which our roads will be safer.
