Triumph India clarifies on power figures fiasco

Triumph Motorcycles India is all over the news since the last few days. Until few days ago, the British manufacturer displayed EU specifications on their Indian website and also on brochures that was given to prospective buyers from their showrooms. This made the customers believe that the specifications shown by them are the ones they will be getting in their bikes.  The company has decided to clarify everything through an official statement.

Triumph Motorcycles India has clarified that the earlier power figures displayed on the Indian website were EU specifications, which was mentioned under the terms and conditions sections of their website. The British manufacturer says that the testing processes in India and UK are different, which leads to variations in the calculation of power output in PS. The specifications are now updated on the website and are as per the certification under the ARAI regulations.

The company admits that since the time it started doing business in the country, all the completely-knocked-down (CKD) units have been registered as per the ARAI regulations and specifications. There are few Street Triple owners who went ahead and bought the bike thinking it churns out 106bhp. However, Triumph India states that the Street Triple have always been sold as a 79bhp variant in India.

We understand that such clarification was necessary but what we don’t understand is the company took almost a year to realise that they need to update their official website. In today’s business world, it is basic and very important to display information about products with respect to the countries they are selling in.
