Triumph recalls 256 motorcycles due to ECU problem

Triumph has recalled some of their motorcycles due to an issue pertaining to the engine control unit (ECU). A total of 256 motorcycles of model years 2014 and 2015 have been recalled due to the faulty ECUs.

A recall notice from the British manufacturer states that due to faulty ECUs, some motorcycles may experience an unintended activation of one of the fuel injectors. This could result in either the engine not starting or losing ignition in one of the cylinders owing to excessive fuelling. Models part of this recall are the Bonneville, Bonneville T100, America, Rocket III Roadster, Rocket III Touring, Scrambler, Speedmaster, Thruxton, Thunderbird, Thunderbird Storm, Tiger 800 and Tiger 800XC. Triumph Motorcycles have confirmed that they are in the process of contacting the affected customers, who will be asked to bring in their motorcycles to the service centres. It will replace the ECU free of cost. 

While the majority of the Triumph motorcycles sold in India are completely-knocked-down (CKD) units, the Rocket III Roadster and the Thunderbird Storm are sold as completely-built-up (CBU) as it is being imported from the UK. Hence, it is not clear if some of these Indian bikes are part of this recall as the company hasn’t mentioned India under this notice. Only UK, Australia, Canada and US models are being recalled.
