The 2015 Indian Scout has been launched in the Indian market at Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The company has started accepting bookings for the motorcycle, though there isn’t any word about when the deliveries will begin.

The Indian Scout was unveiled earlier this month at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, US and has been pegged as a spiritual successor to the original Scout which the company sold in the 1920, 1930s and 1940s. A lot of emphasis has been put in making the Scout as light as possible and the light and rigid cast aluminium chassis ensures that the Scout, at 244 kilograms, is the lightest motorcycle in the company’s line-up.

Unlike the rest of Indian Motorcycles’ line-up, which are focussed more at providing a comfortable ride rather than performance, the Scout is middleweight cruiser which has been built from ground up to be a fast motorcycle. It is powered by a new liquid-cooled 69 cubic inch or 1133cc V-twin powerplant which churns out 100bhp and 97Nm of torque through a six-speed gearbox. The engine gets modern touches like a closed-loop fuel injection system and a ride-by-wire throttle.

Speaking about the motorcycle, Mr. Pankaj Dubey, MD, Polaris India Pvt. Ltd. said, “The launch of the Indian Scout in the United States has proved to be successful in stirring a new wave of enthusiasm. The launch just added another feather in our effort to revive the history of Indian Motorcycle. The launched model is designed to possess the heritage of the past, blended with modern technology. We are now giving Indian enthusiasts a chance to own a piece of history in a modern package by booking their own Indian Scout.”

Until now, the Indian Motorcycles’ range in the India started with the Chief Classic, which is priced at Rs 26.5 lakh. This high asking price made the Indian a very premium brand, accessible only to few extremely wealthy customers. The Scout however, will be the most affordable motorcycle in the company’s line-up and should definitely help the growth of the brand in India. Though it does fall short on a few premium equipments that its elder siblings feature, the lucrative price tag might just make the Scout the company’s top-selling motorcycle in India.
