Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. has registered a 27 per jump in domestic sales in September. The company sold 59,325 units of its motorcycles and scooters in the last month as opposed to 46,790 units it could manage in September 2013.
Mr. Roy Kurian, VP, sales and marketing, Yamaha said that updating its line-up with facelifts and new products in the past couple of months has been the main driver for its success in India. He said, “Our scooter offerings, especially Alpha, have been a catalyst in giving us good numbers over the past few months and now with addition to our popular motorcycle line-up with FZ, FZ-S and Fazer Version 2.0, we have strengthened our presence in the 150cc deluxe segment.”
In the forthcoming festive season, the Japanese manufacturer has pinned its hopes on the recent launches and other customer related initiatives to boost its sales in the world’s biggest two-wheeler market. The company is optimistic about being able to post record breaking numbers in the coming months. Yamaha is planning to introduce special offers like lower down-payments and easy financing schemes among others to lure customers during the festive season.
Yamaha currently enjoys over seven per cent market share in the rapidly growing scooter segment. While the sale of scooters is slowly catching up in rural areas, the company continues to look at urban markets like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore remain as its chief markets. Yamaha currently has over 1,400 touch points including dealers, branches and Yamaha Bike Corner and plans to add 600 more of these over the course of two years.
