Indian Motorcycles, the iconic cruiser manufacturer from America, is planning to expand its line-up by adding a new motorcycle to its portfolio. To be christened as Roadmaster, the fourth motorcycle in the company’s line-up will revive the moniker which first adorned the fenders of the classic Indian cruisers from 1940s and 1950s.
The company’s plans of reintroducing the moniker was confirmed when a document of the new motorcycle passing the emission tests in America was leaked on the internet. The document reveals that the Roadmaster will be powered by the same 111cubic inch or 1811cc ‘Thunder-Stroke’ V-twin engine preoducing 139Nm of torque, which is also used in the Chief Classic, Chief Vintage and the Chieftain. Like Harley-Davidson, Indian Motorcycles do not reveal the horsepower figures of its motorcycles and the engine is rated only in terms of torque.
Other details of the Roadmaster haven’t been made public as of yet. Given that the company already has classic vintage themed motorcycles in its range, rumours suggest that in terms of design, the Roadmaster will take a slightly different approach. While the Chief Classic, Chief Vintage and the Chieftain already compete with the old-school traditional cruisers from Harley-Davidson, the new Roadmaster is expected to rival the likes of the Electra Glide and the Kawasaki Vulcan range.
The Indian Roadmaster will go on sale in the US market in 2015. There is a high possibility that the motorcycle will be displayed at the 2014 Sturgis rally, which means that we might not have to wait for very long to get a first glimpse of the motorcycle.
