Bajaj Auto wins patent case against LML

Bajaj Auto has won a 7 year old patent case filed by LML. LML had sought the revocation of a patent granted to Bajaj Auto on air and fuel intake systems for engines which was dismissed by Chennai bench of Intellectual Property Appellate Board.

The Pune based motorcycle manufacturer was granted patent for them to use the intake system for two-stroke two-wheeler engines that will lead to improved fuel efficiency and less emissions.

"The IPAB verdict upholds the validity of the patent as the bench has held that it is an inventive improvement over prior patents which made the invention in question more useful and efficient. LML Ltd is likely to challenge this verdict by filing a writ petition at the Madras High Court." said an individual familiar with the case to ET.
