About Harley Davidson Street 500
Harley-Davidson had pleasantly surprised us with the Rs 4.1 lakh price tag for the Street 750 and it will soon launch the second offering of the Street series – the Street 500 in India. The company’s first lightweight bike in 30 years, the Street 500, will be the new stepping stone into the Harley Owners Group. It is also the most affordable motorcycle in the company’s line-up.
Harleys-Davidson says that many new riders felt intimidated by the size or weight of its products. It claims that the new Street bikes are easy to manoeuvre for a biker of any experience level and have been designed for anything from cruising to daily commuting for work.
Along with the Street 750, the Street 500 will be a part of the Dark Custom range of the American cruiser brand and the entry-level bike in the line-up. Harley-Davidson has designed an entirely new platform for these bikes for the first time in the last 13 years. Aimed at young riders, the Dark Custom line-up of motorcycles bikes are lighter, faster and more agile than the rest.
The bikini fairing on the round headlamp is a reminiscent of the XLCR. The Street 500 carries traditional cruiser design cues like all-black two-in-one exhaust, black pullback handlebars, comfortable seats, steel frame and mid-mount controls finished off with LED tail lights.
The Street 500 will be powered by a new liquid-cooled 484cc ‘Revolution X’ engine identical to the one used in the Street 750, but with a narrow-bore. The engine has a 60-degree V-twin design with single overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder and will be mated to a six-speed gearbox with a belt drive.
The Street 500 will be an important part of Harley-Davidson’s strategy to increase their market share in one of the biggest motorcycle markets in the world. As the Street 500 will also be manufactured in India, we expect it to be priced very aggressively in the Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 4.0 lakh price range.
