TVS Scooty Zest 110

In the last report we brought you up to speed with what the TVS Scooty Zest 110 was all about: a light, small scooter marketed for the fairer sex. We appreciated that it was easy to ride, could carry stuff around, and even in dense traffic and with a careless right wrist, it still managed to return over 40kmpl. The claimed, of course, is over 60kmpl. So does it then work for college going girls as Ms Anushka Sharma so smilingly claims in the TV ad?

It sure does! But, after having spent a month riding it, I can assure you, it’s also great for the boys…or even men; barring that turquoise blue hue. The Scooty Zest can comfortably fit in an average Indian male – height, width and weight. And to top it all, it’s a fun scooter to ride!

What makes it so? The engine - the same 109.7cc, single cylinder, 7.9bhp engine that powers the bigger and heavier TVS Jupiter – plays a big part. Now, the power figure isn’t jaw dropping; in fact, it’s hugely underwhelming for those used to riding premium motorcycles. But, on the road, the Scooty Zest feels a lot peppier than that power figure (or even its peak torque of 8.7Nm) might suggest.

The TVS Scooty Zest 110 gets off the line in an instant. And it doesn’t take long to hit 80kmph either. By this time you have left most of the traffic waiting with you at the previous traffic light behind. Now after you cross 80kmph, the progress blunts and getting past 85kmph (at least with weight) can be a challenge. Having that, you can still hold your own in the left lane. And if you happen to ride it around your block, you might just be the fastest thing there.

What also makes this TVS fun is its quick handling nature, and great brakes (even though the Scooty Zest runs an odd drum brake setup front to rear). But, more on that next month, so stay tuned…
